In my view, the paramount role of a tutor is to cultivate a learning environment filled with patience and empathy. By recognising the challenges students may encounter along their learning journey and demonstrating empathy towards these obstacles, a positive and supportive environment is created between the student and tutor. This allows me to…

Encourage and motivate them to learn, without the right attitude towards learning it can become a chore. Being resilient and have a determination to always improve rather than get caught up in a bad mark. I am able to use a range of different way to explain or teach, Im flexible around the person who is learning. I'm aware that not everyone learns…

Create a comfortable, relaxed environment to learn and ask questions. Improve confidence: many students don't know what they're capable of, and just need the self-belief to show it off. Be able to react to a student's needs as they develop and progress in order to continue learning as efficiently as possible. I believe I am relatable and good…

Tutors must be able to listen to their student's learning needs in order to be able to fully recognise what they must do to help their students with their learning. All student's have the ability to do as well as the can in school when educator's listen to them and give them the best tools to motivate them to learn. I am in my third year of my…

As a tutor, I believe the success of the student must always be the central focus. The ability to translate complex course material into a format that is within a student centered model of teaching while focusing on critical thinking skills aiding in solving the problems of the course material. As a tutor, I could assist students to understand their subjects by motivating them involving an interactive class with students. When I went to tutoring, I had the best experience by having a very motivated, interactive and interesting tutor. I will try to become one of them though I'm still yet to gain formal experience of tutoring In addition,…

I think the most important thing that a tutor can do is be supportive. Students are already frustrated when they do not understand something, hence we do not need to add to that by being frustrated at them. In addition, a tutor needs to be flexible. This allows one to better tailor the program to the student's needs and the student's strengths. I…

The most important thing that I can do as a tutor would be to make sure the kid understands everything that I teach. Each kid is different. Finding the right teaching style for that kid and teaching as such will make the kid more involved into the subject and makes learning fun. I am a very good observer and an active listener. I make sure I tend…

To me, the most essential role a tutor can fulfill is that of an enabler and empowerer. I believe a tutor's primary goal should be to provide students with a strong foundation of knowledge and a resilient problem-solving framework, not only to tackle academic challenges but also to navigate any obstacle life may present. An empowering tutor equips…

Patience and not comparing them with the others. I believe that each student has their own pace of learning. Lack of patience and comparing them with others will certainly hamper their learning process and will give them less confidence on their studies. Understanding the most effective way of learning for each student is also crucial. When I was…

I have rarely ever used the same method of explaining a concept/theory on multiple students. It is really important for tutors to understand the needs and abilities of their students in order to maintain progress. It is also crucial for tutors to have time-management and resourceful qualities in order to ensure academic development in students.…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to provide clarity, support, and encouragement. Among the most important things a tutor can do for a student is that a tutor must be able to understand a student's learning style so that the student would be able to learn the material in a way that is analogous to their mode of synthesising knowledge. A tutor must do this all the while being open and kind and most especially warm towards the…

Local Reviews

The process of getting a tutor was very simple and the services are very flexible. The payment options on line are very simple as well. Our tutor, James is extremely flexible with times and days which has worked really well. Initially we signed up for weekly slots then moving to fortnightly with extra lessons if needed. James has worked wonders with Sarah's progress in Maths and she is doing really well with the support of James who is a gem and have such confidence in. It's being a big success and we are thankful for the services. Kind Regards Iain and Laura Cooper

Inside AbbotsfordTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Rose focused on multiplying and dividing with the column method, practiced rounding larger numbers up to the millions, and explored classifying angles and triangles using diagrams.

For Year 9, Chloe tackled surface area of prisms and composite shapes, then applied these skills in worded problem contexts.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Lachlan revised applications of derivatives and looked ahead at stationary points, working through example problems for deeper understanding.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student often relied on checking answers with the tutor after every maths question, revealing low confidence even when their calculations were correct; as one note said, "she checks with me each question—most of the time the answer is correct."

In a senior Standard Maths session, another student struggled to keep up with new content due to missing earlier work and found it difficult to dedicate time to catching up.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 learner faced exam pressure, rushing through working and making small mistakes that cost marks.

Missed assignments or incomplete homework were also noted in several cases.

Recent Achievements

One Abbotsford tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to rely heavily on memorising rules now confidently explains her steps for solving trigonometry questions, especially with SOHCAHTOA, and can tackle worded problems that stumped her last term.

In Year 7 English, a student who struggled to express ideas has started using the P.E.E. structure when writing about texts and can now justify how she arrived at her answers—something she hesitated to do before.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student moved from frequent errors in rounding numbers to consistently rounding up correctly when needed and completed her six times tables worksheet with perfect accuracy by the end of the session.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Five Dock Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Abbotsford Public School.
