The most important thing to me is that the student feels comfortable with my teaching style and that they are motivated to learn, not feeling that the subject is too hard or too dry, but instead I prioritise adding personal interest of the students and relate it to the topic which helps to grasp better understanding towards it. My strengths are…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for their students are build confidence, adapt to individual learning styles, and provide clear guidance. A tutor should create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, as this is essential for learning. They should also identify gaps in…

I believe a student's emotional well-being, especially their feelings towards their studies is very important. By addressing what's causing them distress and overwhelming feelings a tutor can greatly improve a student's performance. This is because one's attitude can hugely impact not only the amount of effort one is willing to put in, but also…

Tutor can guide the student effectively. Tutoring doesn’t mean delivering lecture and completing the curriculum. It is responsible for holistic development of the pupils. Most important a teacher can do is to check the students individual growth and planning for the same. I have more than 4 years of teaching experience. I have taught formally as…

I believe that a tutor should understand that students have different ways of the studying that actually help them in their studies, and they should be able to adapt and prepare new ways of teaching that is most valuable to students. I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to build their confidence and foster a positive attitude towards learning. By creating a supportive and encouraging environment, tutors can help students overcome their fears and self-doubt, which is often the biggest barrier to their success. This involves not only teaching the…

The best thing is to guide a student in a direction which is best according his or her capabilities. He/she should be motivated to follow the path in which he /she has upper hand or better grasping power. Tutoring is not just about teaching ......It decides the future of next generations. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is help them believe in themselves. Academic support is important, but confidence is what truly changes everything. Being able to formulate different approaches on the go is something a tutor should be able to do in order for the students to understand at their own pace. All students need a little help, a little hope, and somebody who believes in them. That somebody is definitely their tutor. Tutors do not just give out answers, they want students to understand how to do the work on their own. To be consoling and confident, so that the student believes in you. Konstantinos was a great teacher. He explained the maths very well.
Anthony, Altona North

Inside Altona NorthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student John worked through solving linear equations and inequalities, using textbook examples to reinforce balancing techniques.

In Year 10, Olivia focused on conditional probability, including practice with tree diagrams and interpreting union and intersection scenarios.

For Year 11, James reviewed the properties of tangent graphs versus sine and cosine functions, then practised sketching and finding x-intercepts for trigonometric graphs ahead of his upcoming test.

Recent Challenges

Several high school students did not complete or submit assigned homework, especially on algebra calculations and exam revision tasks. In one Year 11 session, "she was asked to send finished questions by email," but no work arrived, leaving gaps before upcoming assessments.

For a Year 10 student revising trigonometry, textbook exercises set for mastering unit circle values were left unfinished, so confusion lingered into the next lesson.

A Year 8 student focusing on factorization received extra problems but struggled to keep pace with required practice—missing out on timely feedback before moving forward.

Recent Achievements

One Altona North tutor noted that Millie, a Year 5 student who used to wait for prompts, is now actively jumping in to answer questions and even works through her own mistakes without hesitation.

In a recent high school maths session, a Year 11 student who had struggled with graphing trigonometric functions started approaching practice test questions with visible confidence, independently solving both sine and tangent graphs after weeks of uncertainty.

Another tutor described how Neha, previously hesitant about essay writing, managed to analyse arguments and write a complete language analysis essay on her own for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Yarraville Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Bayside P-12 College-Altona North Campus.
