My nature of never giving up on the concept and easy recognition of my student’s change in body language, voice that make me aware that they didn’t understand the concepts and I’ll never move to next one until I…

In general, I believe that the best way to teach Maths/Science is in a way which the student understands the concepts rather than just giving the student a method to produce an answer, which is how these subjects are commonly taught. 1. I am self-directed, energetic, and enthusiastic. I have completed my Bachelor of Engineering + Management…

Studying techniques, creating good habits and of course, feedback for improvements! These are the important aspects that a tutor should show their students. There is much more to learning than parroting back facts - information needs to absorbed, regurgitated, reused in a practical sense. I have much hands-on experience in using my chosen skills -…

The most important things I can offer are patience and the ability to deliver complex ideas through clear, visual explanations. Patience is crucial because it allows me to truly listen and understand what children are trying to communicate from their unique perspectives, so I can connect with them on their level, making it easier to explain…

Some of the most important things that a tutor can and should do for a student include: providing useful and timely support if needed, creating a supportive environment in which we can all learn and grow without being afraid of making mistakes, and helping students to identify and overcome their shortcomings to thrive academically. I am very…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to first be understanding as each student has different experiences with learning subjects and may also have problems outside of education. Secondly would be to be approachable and appear easy-going so the student will not be intimidated or scared in having learning sessions with you.…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is create a space where the student feels completely comfortable being themselves. They should be able to openly say what they do and don’t understand without fear of judgment. This honesty is what allows us to help them in the best way possible. Beyond that, a tutor should always aim to build…

Especially for younger students, I believe that it is important to not only teach the subject, but to lead by example to influence the children to adopt good values such as kindness, patience and tenacity. I can be strict or friendly depending on the needs of the student, so each student's experience will be different in order for them to realise…

A tutor shouldn't be the individual who would only be associated with studies and stuff. A tutor should be someone to whom a student can approach with any sorts of problem with the expectation that their tutor can find a solution to it. Moreover, a tutor should be a guiding light to the student. - Communication - Experience -…

A tutor can be a role model for the student. Generally students observe character and skills of a tutor and in most cases they try to imitate them. As a tutor we have to be a responsible individual gradually transferring our personality to aspiring students. After all today's students are tommorrow's mentors. I think my determination and my…

Based on my experience, I would love to help my students to find out the most appropriate study method for them. As I was in secondary school, science subjects were not my preferable subjects at all. The most important thing a tutor - or any teacher - can do is spark a genuine desire to learn, rather than making learning feel like a requirement. When students are encouraged to personally connect with a subject, its quirks and intricacies, they stop seeing learning as a chore and start seeing it as something they truly enjoy. I'm really good at…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is that they have the drive and the patience for them until they learn. The whole point of why we tutor kids is for them to learn and apply what they know. You also need to love the student and take care of them as a mother does to their kids. My strengths as a tutor are: - I have patience…

I have a positive attitude even when the student is wrong, I correct them by not saying that they were wrong but by picking up the same topic and explaining it in the correct manner. I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is truly be their well-wisher. I think students are coming to tutors because they know they need help. I think the most important things a tutor can do are to build the student’s confidence, make learning less stressful, and explain things in a way that actually makes sense to them. It’s also important to be patient, encouraging, and flexible, every student learns differently, so a tutor should be able to adapt to their needs and help them feel…

Inside ArmadaleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 Dishita focused on interpreting time-series data, including mean-smoothing and deseasonalisation techniques, and practiced applying the 68-95-99.7 rule for normal distributions using exam questions.

Year 11 Emily worked through scatterplots and transformations in statistics, consolidating skills by tackling residuals and regression problems from recent school assessments.

Meanwhile, Year 10 Josh revised financial mathematics concepts such as compound interest calculations and explored surface area and volume of composite shapes through targeted textbook exercises.

Recent Challenges

In Year 3–4, one student often attempted times tables and complex multiplication mentally rather than writing out working, which led to confusion and missed steps—she sometimes forgets to add zeros when moving to the next line.

Notably, in VCE Maths (Year 12), a different student relied on reading exam questions quickly without highlighting key information or taking structured notes. As noted: Needs to read the question carefully. Use a sheet of paper to track reading.

In both cases, skipping systematic written processes made it harder to spot errors and slowed progress during challenging tasks or under exam conditions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Armadale recently saw Dishita, a Year 12 student, begin using the 'talk-aloud' strategy to break down complex standardised score questions—something she previously found daunting. She's now highlighting key details in exam problems and independently choosing the right formulas.

Meanwhile, Rose (Year 6) has moved from needing step-by-step support with long division to confidently solving multi-digit problems and tackling time conversion questions with little prompting.

For a younger learner, Jacob is no longer relying solely on his number line for single-digit addition; he now attempts mental calculations first and checks his work before moving on.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Malvern Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like The King David School - The Rebecca Magid Centre.
