A tutor should get a student to THINK! and not rush to find an answer! This means to get the students to be able to focus on the content at hand and to use various ways to remember the content and apply the content in different ways to solve problems in the real world. Life experience/work…

The most important thing a tutor can do in my opinion is be patient with a student and try and understand the problem from their perspective. By doing this, you are able to see more clearly the issue that they might be having. I also believe that finding the best learning method for a student is a key part of the role as a tutor, and this will…

I believe the most important role of a tutor is to create an environment where the student feels fully comfortable and confident. It’s crucial that they never hesitate to ask questions or admit when something isn’t clear. When students feel safe and supported, genuine learning can take place. After that, I think it’s about helping them…

Acoording to me the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is make a positive impact on his life by not forcing the society standards for learning and growing as every child has a different mind and way of approach to things around them. A tutor is one of the best person who can analyse this and make learning a creative activity instead…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them learn in a way they understand. Not everybody learns the same, so it's important that a tutor can help the student no matter what their learning style is. It's also important that a tutor and the student can get along as well, it's easier to listen to a person you like!…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make sure there is continual improvement in their work. For it's most important for a tutor or mentor to encourage asking. You won't know anything unless you ask for it. More importantly, this builds a person's confidence, which is especially helpful in succeeding. My strengths as a tutor are patience and perseverance. I do not stop until the end goal is achieved. I persist as necessary to succeed, not…

According to me, the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is wake up their curiosity. As this helps make the student pursue the subjects further. These are the future of the humanity,…

Inside AshgroveTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 Maddie worked on measuring and drawing angles, including applying the Z and F rules for similar angles, and practiced finding missing angles in diagrams.

In Year 10, Daniel focused on quadratic equations by exploring factorising over the real numbers and using the discriminant to determine solution types.

For Year 12, Sarah tackled integration problems with emphasis on integrating exponential functions and applying the chain rule, while also revising differentiation techniques involving logarithmic scales.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student struggled to keep written work neat and clearly labeled during algebra tasks, making it harder to spot calculation errors—Bookwork also needs attention. Labelling questions, and setting out could be neater.

In Year 7, incomplete homework was noted; assigned worksheets on fractions and times tables weren't attempted between lessons, so concepts needed reteaching each week.

For a senior student in Maths Methods, over-reliance on calculator entry led to repeated decimal errors: Frequently missing a zero in small decimals.

A Year 12 Chemistry student delayed error analysis write-up, stalling progress on data interpretation until this step was completed.

Recent Achievements

One Ashgrove tutor noticed that a Year 11 student, who used to hesitate with logarithms and complex problem-solving, was able to complete all the challenging questions correctly and efficiently by the end of their session—something they'd previously found overwhelming.

Another high school student, after missing an entire topic on Earth geometry and time zones, managed to catch up within a single lesson and confidently solved related problems without extra prompts.

Meanwhile, a younger student has started showing more independence by remembering steps for converting fractions and decimals without being reminded, finishing all assigned problems accurately before the session ended.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Gagan is a wonderful tutor and I would be very happy with her coming back next year.

Both Natalia and Kiara are very happy with Abigail and things are starting off really great.

Mina is a very helpful teacher who has allowed me to regain confidence. There are times when I do get stuck on some topics, but Mina will know when I need help and she will focus on that topic a bit more. She gives me a wide range of different questions which prepare me for my tests. Her work ethic is an extra bonus which allows me to feel more motivated about maths and makes me feel more confident in harder areas. I recommend Mina to anyone who is looking for a kind and positive teacher who builds up confidence and knowledge. Mina is a hard worker and doesn't put her students down and encourages them even when they aren't understanding the topic.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ashgrove Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Finbarr's School.
