Any tutor can teach students math or science but the best will be who can make them understand by recognising their strengths and weaknesses then teach them accordingly, because every child have different outlook on any topic. According to me my strength is the bonding, which I have with children and I know how to reach on their level to make them…

I am opinion I reckon the most important is for the student to know their true passion in knowledge. Many of us are forced to be good at something and spend thousands of hours of hard work. Everyone could achieve a reasonably high score if they had spent the effort in it, given they were not demotivated during the process. I believe it is most…

A tutor should be able to understand the learning process of their student to supply their best teaching. A tutor should also be able to make learning enjoyable for the student to make it so that they don't see tutoring in a negative way and can look forward to their learning. I am a committed person, so I will not give up on a student and try to…

As a past VCE student that has experienced many different types of tutors personally, the most valuable thing I can offer for a student is the flexibility to cater my teaching to best suit the student's needs. I understand that every student learns differently and that there is no such thing as a "perfect" way to teach. I believe my ability to…

Making sure the student has high morale is my main priority. Always provide help when needed, never discourage them, and make sure they feel comfortable. Students might be very intelligent, however a low amount of confidence can harm them in exams, as they stress on problems that could be simple without time pressure. I believe I can cut down…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student would probably be helping the student to exceed their academic potential by guiding them through topics and further supplying them with non-routine questions that will push their limits in knowledge and excel in the future. Furthermore, I believe another important thing a tutor can do for a…

Not only teaching a subject, but making they more confident and independent. It is important to help students to organize studies by preparing a timetable. Tutors should create awareness in students that why they are learning particular subject and importance of that subject so that they can concentrate better. I feel I can make students feel very comfortable with the subjects and encourage them to go beyond. I use the…

For a tutor to make a significant difference to a student's academic performance, I highly believe that they should be able to teach a certain topic in a multitude of ways, in order to assist with the various learning preferences of students. I think that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them completely understand the material. Not only so that they can do a specific question, the important thing is for them to understand the concept, so when they encountered different kind of question, they would know how to approach it. Furthermore, a tutor must adjust…

The most important thing a tutor can do is adjust their teaching methods and style based on each student. Teaching with only one style and using the same methods for everyone won't work, and if you can't adjust, your sessions becomes very robotic and boring. I believe one of the most important things a tutor can do is remove the fear around a subject. For many students, especially in maths and science, the volume of information can be overwhelming. Inside BangholmeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Jaxxon worked on identifying number patterns and writing numbers as words, using practical worksheets to build confidence.

In Year 9, Olivia focused on statistics by calculating mean and standard deviation, then created timeline plots to represent data visually.

For Year 11, Ethan revised advanced trigonometry topics including the general solution for circular functions and practiced applying translations, dilations, and reflections to function graphs.

Recent Challenges

In Year 3 maths, skipping written working and using fingers for addition led to confusion in multi-step problems; as one tutor noted, "he should work on comprehending worded problems without assistance."

A Year 8 student often left out equal signs or brackets when setting out algebra, making it hard to spot errors later—some steps were done mentally then forgotten.

In VCE maths, a student's revision focused mainly on familiar finance formulas but avoided complex applications; trial SAC questions revealed that over-reliance on calculators sometimes caused missed settings like the degrees symbol.

Time lost reorganizing unclear working meant less chance to attempt challenging questions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Bangholme noticed a big shift with a Year 11 student who used to hesitate when stuck; now, he immediately asks for help and keeps his notebooks organised without reminders.

In another high school session, a Year 10 student who previously struggled to show her working has begun writing out each step when solving equations—making fewer errors as a result.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student moved from guessing number patterns to confidently recognising and explaining them on her own, even tackling new problems without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Patterson Lakes Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Mt Hira College.
