1. Encouragement 2. Academic help and support 3. Empathy and an understanding of the student I believe I have the patience and aptitude to really excel as a tutor. I will not get frustrated and agitated when a student is not understanding a specific topic. Instead, I will try and explain it in many ways until he or she is absolutely confident…

In my opinion, building a student’s confidence and providing friendly assistance is the best any tutor can do for their students. As someone who has received tutoring in the past, I know how much of a difference these simple things can make to a nervous or hesitant student. I believe my strongest attributes as a tutor are that I am very patient,…

The most important things a tutor can provide are: 1. Creating a supportive, judgment-free environment where students feel comfortable asking questions 2. Teaching study skills and learning strategies alongside subject content 3. Building genuine confidence by celebrating progress and helping students recognise their own growth 4. Fostering…

Give the student confidence whilst allowing the children to fully grasp the concepts they are struggling with and turn it into their strengths. My explanations are very strong as I have a great understanding of how to approach different questions from different perspectives as a student myself. I can also tutor PDHPE, Business and…

I believe that the tutor’s greatest imperative is to ensure that a student has the best opportunity to further their skills in the desired field, by means of establishing a supportive work environment, providing concurrent education with that which is being delivered by the students’ schools, and listening to/monitoring a student’s…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to make them feel comfortable and to help them feel like learning is not a chore but a good experience. Being positive, patient and encouraging is also a very important trait for a tutor. I have a lot of experience in nannying/babysitting so, therefore, have the ability to effectively…

Make sure they learn the work in a way that they understand and set the student up for long term success both in the subject I will tutor them in and in life. I have recently studied and developed my knowledge around the subjects I tutor. So I have an understanding of them and the learning process a student goes through, allowing me to shift the…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to meet their individual needs, encourage them, and also make the session enjoyable. All of these things not only help the student succeed in their studies but also make it enjoyable. I feel that it's really important to make the session fun, but also productive so that the student…

PDHPE Tutor Lindfield, NSW
Set them on the right path. Helping them to understand concepts and develop skills (rather than just doing things for them) will mean that they can go on to use these skills themselves. This is very important for exam-taking. Communication. I ask for their input and check that they understand what I'm saying. I am patient and will explain a…

Inside BarangarooTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Ava focused on advanced trigonometry by reviewing her recent test and then moved on to polynomials, tackling chapter exercises and logs.

Year 10 student Tom worked through several lessons on quadratics and linear relations, with sessions dedicated to solving worded problems using algebraic methods.

For a Year 3 primary student, time was spent practising addition and subtraction strategies as well as developing reading comprehension skills through short passages.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra, one student repeatedly avoided writing full working for rearranging equations—"she said, 'I just get stuck at the start,' and would hesitate to begin unless prompted."

In a senior English assignment, another left their TEEL structure incomplete and was reluctant to link arguments back to topic sentences, resulting in an unfinished draft.

A Year 11 student struggled with domain and range because revision focused only on familiar problems rather than tackling new question types; this left them underprepared for tests requiring flexible thinking.

After setbacks, confidence dropped sharply and questions went unasked, making progress slower than expected.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Barangaroo recently noticed a big shift with a Year 10 student who, after weeks of hesitation, started tackling circle geometry questions on her own and now attempts problems independently before asking for help.

In a Year 12 session, Martina made real progress—she stopped relying on example solutions and now remembers formulas well enough to solve algebraic fraction questions without prompts.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who previously stumbled over reading tasks managed to read an entire short paragraph aloud and explain its meaning without assistance.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Customs House Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Fort Street Public School.
