The important thing that a tutor can give a student is time and attention which he might not get in classroom of students. Make the student feel the subject is not difficult by explaining concepts step wise. The tutor can also build self-confidence and problem-solving skills by making him approach the issue first and then guide the correct…

Give moral support and guidance. As a tutor, I don't give answers or solve the student's work, I want them to be able to solve it themselves and use their critical thinking skills with their knowledge of subject content. Subjects can be tough, as a tutor, I need to find ways to convey the same subject in an easier, convenient way to understand it.…

The most important thing that a tutor can do is to pivot their teaching style in order to suit not only the content but how the student learns. Without this ability to change as necessary you are putting your students at a significant disadvantage. Breaking down complex concepts into simple ideas. Creating a comfortable learning environment where…

Patience - It is the most critical aspect to have as a tutor. Secondly, knowledge, a historian as said half knowledge is more dangerous than no knowledge, hence one need to have full idea about the topic. Lastly, presentation, we should be presentable enough to make the peere comfortable. Since long years of tutoring, biggest strength of my…

A tutor needs to help identify a student's strong points and motivate the students in every possible way. It's not always the tutor that should be valued and respected but the students also needs the same respect and care. Also, a tutor should know how to boost up the morale of a student when he/she is feeling low. If student is facing some…

As a tutor, I believe it is critical for providing a space for students to not be afraid to be wrong and foster engagement. Encouraging and patient when explaining concepts to students. Tutors need to provide encouragement as this will build both motivation within the student to do well in a subject, and increase their overall confidence in a difficult topic. I believe setting achievable goals is also an important thing a tutor can do. Patience is also critical, as…

I feel a tutor must be able to invoke a sense of interest and joy in a students minds for the subject they teach. As a tutor, you are someone who has studied the subject beforehand and are more knowledgeable about the subject than a student who is just starting out. This makes it difficult for tutors to reach their maximum potential while teaching…

I feel the strengths as a tutor are to help my students to set a high expectation, which motivates them to work towards that. I believe the most important thing here would be to ensure the student understands what is being taught and is able to move forward in their learning. My daughter has constantly struggled with maths and has had 2 Ezymaths tutors. Both have been fantastic in helping to teach her the fundamentals and to build her self confidence in maths, which given how terrible I was with maths was impossible to do myself. I think I just made things worse. I would certainly recommend Ezymath tutors to anyone. Well worth the investment. Regards Trent

Inside Blair AtholTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student James revised for an upcoming **differential calculus test** by drawing sign diagrams for derivatives and finding equations of tangents to curves at given points.

A Year 12 student worked through the **chain rule and product rule in differentiation**, tackling a variety of exam-style questions to solidify understanding.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Alex practised solving linear equations and graphing straight lines, focusing on interpreting **slope and y-intercept** from both algebraic forms and graphs.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student struggled with test timing—"if he masters this at the start of year 12, he will be ahead," noted a tutor after observing rushed solutions in calculus.

In Year 10, one student's working was crowded and hard to track; errors became harder to spot without clearer spacing between steps.

A Year 8 learner found it difficult to recall earlier algebra lessons, needing frequent review of summary sheets.

Another senior needed help "remembering trigonometric identities" but hesitated to label diagrams, which slowed progress on non-calculator tasks and left them searching for connections mid-question.

Recent Achievements

One Blair Athol tutor noticed a Year 11 student who previously hesitated to show working now lays out each step clearly, which helps him spot and fix mistakes himself.

A Year 8 learner, after struggling with fractions, can now confidently find lowest common multiples and perform operations with different denominators without pausing for help.

Meanwhile, a primary student who used to guess when asked about prime numbers is now using continuous division accurately to identify primes and explain her reasoning out loud. Last session, she distinguished between three tricky numbers in a row using this method.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Enfield Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Paul Lutheran School.
