I am opinion I reckon the most important is for the student to know their true passion in knowledge. Many of us are forced to be good at something and spend thousands of hours of hard work. Everyone could achieve a reasonably high score if they had spent the effort in it, given they were not demotivated during the process. I believe it is most…

Provide motivation and help develop a passion (or at least an appreciation) for Mathematics. Success would be more likely if the student is enjoying the subject matter. Furthering this; to teach the student confidence in their abilities and eventually be more independent in thier learning/study. It is also important that a tutor understand the…

The most important and primary action that a tutor needs to do is to know his/her student as it elicits the tutor a good background about the student strenghts and weaknesses. This factor leads the tutor to construct an study method that is personalised and programmed based on the given student, this manifest in a more efficient and high quality…

I believe that a tutor needs to communicate with the student about their needs. I think that if the student and the tutor communicate well and both parties understand each other, then it will help the student tremendously. They will be willing to ask questions and participate during the lesson. I am an approachable person. I feel like my passion…

Listen to what they are struggling with and do your personal best to help the student to build confidence in themselves and in that area. Furthemore, having a good in-depth subject knowledge will be more than helpful too. My ability to simplify problems and communicate alternate solutions to the student so they are able to gain an understanding…

The tutor could make the student more comfortable with the topic at hand and put him at ease, and make the student understand that going through difficulty when learning is perfectly normal. My strengths are patience, commitment, being as approachable and friendly as I can, and willingness to listen to doubts and issues from the people I'm…

1. Assist them in developing a learning style that is most suited to them. Everyone learns differently, everyone gets motivated differently. Finding the right strategy to learning increases the outcome-effort ratio and the adopted learning strategy allows them to become independent learners for life. 2. Make them feel supported at all time,…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student, not to just explain a certain problem but to help them understand the concept behind it, explain to them why they are doing it. Students need to be motivated, without motivation students lose the desire to learn. I feel that if students understand why they have to do it maths or English…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student include fostering true understanding of the material, rather than just memorisation, by breaking down complex concepts into digestible parts. As a tutor, I excel at breaking down complex concepts into simple, relatable terms, making it easier for students to grasp difficult topics. I am…

For any student, progress will naturally vary and giving them that support and encouragement to persevere and overcome hurdles in their learning is,…

Allow a student to learn and gain knowledge in a fun way, or at least learn willingly and most importantly joyfully. A tutor must teach a student not only the content but also how to learn the content. Many student struggle simply due to their study habits and not having the confidence to try questions. Furthermore, learning the 'algorithms' to question is also where students seem to go wrong. It is imperative that they understand the underlying theory so they…

I firmly believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to personalise their learning experience. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student, in my opinion, is to believe in them. When a child's role model believes in them they begin to believe in themselves and, I believe, that is the first step to accomplishing great things. If a child believes that they have the ability to do something they are more inclined to put more effort…

Allow the student to have freedom of thought and to develop critical and logical thinking, whilst keeping in the bounds of the subject criteria that will be accessed. Inside BoroniaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Olivia worked through fractions and percentages using real-world examples, then moved on to practising long multiplication and division for improved accuracy.

Year 9 student Liam focused on mastering linear graphing techniques alongside trigonometry basics like SOH CAH TOA, including some bearings problems.

For Year 12, Emily tackled advanced calculus topics such as differentiation (chain, product, and quotient rules) and integrated practice with exam-style questions covering probability distributions and financial mathematics.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student struggled to remember and implement area and volume rules, leading to slow progress during revision—"he needed tips on memorising these rules to feel more confident."

In Year 12, a lack of careful checking when solving integration problems resulted in using incorrect numbers and missed marks.

For a Year 8 lesson, one student's written working was often skipped or incomplete in algebra tasks, making it harder to spot errors and correct them quickly.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 learner hesitated to write answers for fear of mistakes, sometimes leaving questions unfinished after initial setbacks.

Recent Achievements

A Boronia tutor recently noticed a big shift for a Year 12 student who'd struggled with advanced differentiation: after needing lots of guidance last month, she worked through the latest book problems almost entirely on her own, only asking for help with one especially tough question.

Meanwhile, in Year 8 maths, another student who used to freeze up when graphing can now confidently draw and interpret graphs without prompting—last lesson she completed an entire set solo.

For a younger learner, mastering trickier times tables had always been daunting; this week he applied a new strategy independently and finished all his practice questions using it.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Boronia Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Boronia K-12 College.
