I believe that building a strong teacher-student relationship is the most important thing. Most students who seek for tutoring are either aiming to break their limits, or catch up with others. Both motivation requires significant support from their peers, thus, as a tutor, building a strong TSR can robustly improve students' learning motivation.…

I wish to try my best to identify gaps in learning and provide tailored instruction to the students who are struggling. There are always methods to intuitively understand the principle behind the "problems" so that students can make connections with what they've learned. I'm a current student at the University of Melbourne majoring in Mathematics…

Tutors fill a different role than teachers and parents, and that puts them in a unique position to support students. A successful tutors build strong, personal relationships with their students. When tutors focus on goal setting, creating benchmarks and planning backwards, this sets students up for academic progress. When a tutor listens and…

It definitely has to be creating passion within a student for a subject that they are struggling with. As a newly graduated student, I understand how crushing and demotivating a difficult subject can be. In addition, receiving tutoring in a subject you have no passion for, is terrible for their learning and mental health. Thus I think that the…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is to listen to them. If you do not have two way communication a lot of details can be lost in translation or misunderstood . I am patient and I adapt to my students learning style in order to have effective communication. I plan material ahead of the lesson to ensure that the time I have…

Not only providing valuable insights into learning techniques and skillsets constructed from personal experience, but also giving students the necessary ingredients for building their own toolset with guidance and advice. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is giving enough time for the student who requires that time for understanding. Some students may require more time and a tutor should always be able to provide them with time and efforts. My strength as a tutor is the connection I get with the students. Also, my strength is a tutor is my…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is make the student feel supported and understood. Ceating a space where the student feels safe to ask questions and make mistakes is important. A good tutor should listen and adapt their approach based on the student’s needs. Sometimes students already have the ability but they just need someone…

A tutor should be polite and should never get mad at students as being a student they don't know the things and they come to the tutor for learning. so, the tutor should first understand the student as different students have different minds (sharp and slow) and then teach them according to their requirements. I am a good listener and speaker and…

A tutor should inspire confidence in students, encourage questions, and provide clear explanations tailored to individual learning styles. Beyond imparting subject knowledge, a tutor should instill a passion for the subject, helping…

Its also about creating structure, consistency, and genuine encouragement. At the end of the day, tutoring isn't just about teaching content, its about helping…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen to them, understand their queries, and then make strategies so that they can learn how to solve the problems. The most important things a tutor can do for a student is have an interest in the topic themselves. An interested tutor increases the interest of the students meaning the student has more of an incentive to study and invest their time in a subject. Further more an important aspect of a tutoring job is preparation on the side of the tutor, to allow…

Inside BrooklynTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Vincent reviewed mixed numbers, area and volume, percentages, ratios, and introductory algebra while also practising reading comprehension and grammar.

In Year 10, Daniel worked on graphing linear inequalities and representing them visually, alongside simplifying expressions in algebra.

For Year 11, Alyssa focused on completing the square for quadratics as well as exploring the Sine Rule and Cosine Rule in trigonometry using step-by-step problem sets.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student often arrived without their class notes or required materials, which made it hard to bridge knowledge gaps—significant gaps in their knowledge that will require further study.

In Year 11 Chemistry, one student missed several weeks due to injury and needed intensive test preparation; this left little time for developing independent revision habits.

For a Year 7 learner, skipping careful reading of worded maths problems meant solutions were sometimes off-target.

Meanwhile, a senior student working on trigonometry lacked confidence with unit circle values and hesitated to attempt questions without reference aids. This slowed progress during practice tests.

Recent Achievements

One Brooklyn tutor noted a Year 10 student who had previously relied on hints is now independently spotting and correcting their own algebra mistakes during sessions.

A recent high school chemistry lesson saw a student, who used to mix up empirical and molecular formulas, clearly explain the difference between them without prompting.

Meanwhile, in primary years, a Year 4 learner who would often guess answers now confidently asks for help when stuck—showing they're comfortable voicing what they don't understand.

Last session, that same student finished all ten questions without skipping any or giving up.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Yarraville Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Annunciation School.
