This means by making the students understand and gain knowledge easily which will help them for the long run. A tutor makes a student feel like even though the work is difficult and deadlines are looming, everything will be okay. The tutor acts as a mentor who helps students to improve their time management and study skills, as well as clarifying difficult points. This makes the student feel reassured about their progress through the course. I like to…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their students is to encourage them to continue with their studies and motivate and help the student achieve to the best of their abilities. If a tutor can do this then a student can become more confident in their learning and more willing to work on study. My strengths as a tutor are my ability to…

As a tutor, I believe it is very important to teach and advice on 'how to study' along with concepts. Throughout my undergraduate degree, through friends, my tutors and lecturers, I have learnt many tricks and tips which I love to share with my students making them understand concepts better and build a liking for the subject. I enjoy what I study…

Instead of focusing on traditional way of teaching, a teacher should be able to spark curiosity. Instead of telling them to write, teacher should tell them how writing makes you think critically. Additionally, teachers should understand that every student is unique and they might have different learning methods which suits them. Education system…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is creating lesson plans and methods based around that student. In my opinion, tutors can help students in setting goals and achieve them from time to time. I feel tutors need to provide constructive feedback for the students, especially in an English essay for example. Tutors also need to help students stay on top of task, help them complete assignments in time, this means they need to…

Inside BurnsideTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Armando worked on comparing fractions and decimals using number lines, as well as converting between units.

For Year 10, Ella focused on surface area and volume of three-dimensional shapes like spheres and prisms, applying formulas to practical problems.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Jay revised bivariate statistics by interpreting residual plots and working through exponential regression questions from a revision guide.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 maths, one student's working was described as "hard to follow," with cramped handwriting and inconsistent labelling—making it easy to lose track during matrix problems.

A Year 11 student left several assignment requirements unclear until the last minute; as a tutor noted, "he needs to check the task sheet closely before submitting."

Meanwhile, in Year 7 algebra, skipping written steps when simplifying expressions led to repeated errors with negatives.

For a primary learner, focus drifted quickly during longer tasks—work became untidy and mistakes crept in as attention waned near the end of each session.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Burnside noticed that a Year 10 student who used to hesitate when stuck on algebraic problems now confidently asks for help as soon as something isn't clear, rather than guessing or staying silent.

In another session, a Year 12 student independently scored B+ on his first two practice exams and pinpointed areas he wants to improve, showing real ownership over his learning.

Meanwhile, a younger student who'd previously relied heavily on reminders is now tackling worksheets mostly solo and only seeks clarification when truly needed. Last week, she remembered how to convert decimals to percentages and got every question right on her class test.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Jaiden likes Justin as he explains how to work out the Maths in different ways and Jaiden understands this

Washim was absolutely fantastic with our daughter Josephine! He was very patient and knowledgeable. Josephine went from a C student in Semester 1 to an A student in Semester 2 last year. The only variable that changed was tutoring with Washim during that period of time.

We had our first lesson with Jacob tonight and I wanted to let you know that we were highly impressed with him. Jacob seems to be a great fit for my daughter, was very friendly and knowledgeable. I wanted to pass this feedback on and let you know that we are very happy with Jacob.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Burnside Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Burnside Primary School.
