A tutor must create a friendly bond with the student so they feel free to ask anything and clear all the concepts. It's a tutor's duty to make sure that all the students are on same page at the time of lecture, involving everyone is the key requirement. I am focused as well as fin loving which can involve students in the lecture. Story making…

An ability to communicate a genuine passion for the subject. Patience and being calm in the delivery of the content. I think reassurance that there is often a feeling of uncertainty through the learning process and that this is perfectly ok and a sign that learning is happening. Being structured in the delivery of the content so that there can…

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is make the student feel truly listened to. When a student feels heard and understood, they gain confidence. I also believe it's about helping them fall in love with the subject not just memorise it. If they can connect with the topic and see its value or beauty in some way, learning becomes…

Being able to teach the student not only about academics, but also preparing them for what is to come. I know from recent personal observatory experience how difficult starting Highschool is, and how large of a jump that is. I can also relate to the jump from year 10 to VCE, it is difficult and extremely stressful! The most important thing a tutor…

I think it is important for tutors to be able to identify which areas students struggle with, then find a way to break it down and explain it to students so they fully understand. Tutors need to be patient and also be able to listen to what questions the students have, understand the problem and then explain the question to them slowly. Tutors…

As a tutor, above all, you should be helping your students achieve their goal. Whether they're aiming for a pass or excellent marks to enter their preferred university, a tutor should be helping them succeed academically. Realistically, a tutor will most likely not change a student's opinion of a particular subject, but that is fine. I think my…

I believe being able to provide individualised instructions is a crucial part of being a tutor. Tailoring teaching methods to suit the student's learning style, pace, and preferences ensures a more effective and personalised learning experience. Additionally, beyond academic achievements, a tutor should inspire a passion for learning and promote…

In my opinion, the most critical responsibility of a tutor is not during the teaching phase, but in the phase that comes after the lesson. After learning the theory, the student will begin practising problems related to the topic and it is during this period, that most of the learning takes place. Hence, it is important for tutors to be there to…

It's important to help the student develop not only their skills but also their attitude towards learning because that is more often the first step in improvement and growth. The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is relate to them. Everyone is different and learns in a different way. Hence, you must adjust your method of teaching for each individual student. Some people are auditory, visual or written learners, some like algebra, calculus, or trigonometry. Moreover, if you are understanding of your…

I believe that understanding is the most important thing a tutor must do for a student. Without comprehension, the tutor would not be able to communicate with the student in the same language, making it impossible for the tutor to address the issue the student is having and come up with solutions to help the student's condition. I am currently…

A tutor is there to build confidence, in my opinion. Regardless of the comments of parents, teachers, siblings, a tutor should believe in their students and empower them to perform at the highest level capable. Local Reviews

We had a very good experience with Ezy Math. They were very proactive and great to deal with. When the first tutor we hired didn't work for us, we requested a change and they were quick to find us a replacement who was excellent. Jenny Wong is a great math Tutor and was kind, compassionate, patient and excellent at tutoring Maths. My daughter really benefited greatly and built much confidence and did well under her tutoring. Ezy Math regularly ask for feedback to see how things are going and are happy to work with you to make sure you have right tutor for your child.

Inside CamberwellTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Adele worked on operations with decimals, including multiplying and dividing them, and practised applying place value concepts to support accuracy.

Year 7 student Mia reviewed algebraic expressions—simplifying, factorising, and expanding brackets—and explored multiplying exponents with the same base using step-by-step written explanations.

Meanwhile, Jaidan in Year 8 focused on mastering Pythagoras' theorem by breaking down the formula's application to right-angled triangles and also spent time reviewing his recent test to address specific misunderstandings in geometry.

Recent Challenges

In Year 3 maths, one student often guessed answers for worded division problems or larger multiplication facts instead of working them out, saying "it's too hard" before attempting. This led to repeated confusion with remainders and symbol meanings.

In Year 7, another student rushed mental arithmetic rather than writing clear steps—"he prefers rushing through his working rather than writing it out step by step," a tutor noted—which made it difficult to track down errors in negative number calculations.

By Year 10 algebra, skipping written working meant sign errors went unnoticed until results were checked at the end, leading to frustration when mistakes accumulated.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Camberwell noticed Jayden's answers have become more structured and thorough—he now explains each step in algebraic problems, rather than just giving the final answer.

Jaidan, a high school student who previously struggled with Pythagoras' theorem, was able to spot where he'd gone wrong on his last test and corrected his approach when reviewing practice questions.

Meanwhile, Mia has started asking for clarification instead of skipping tricky worded maths problems; this shift means she now completes most multi-step questions independently, including finding 10% off prices and calculating change with decimals.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Camberwell Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Camberwell Girls Grammar School.
