The most important thing in teaching any subject is showing the big picture along with the nitty-gritty. I hope that my student can see the beauty in the sometimes boring schoolwork, and see the deep underlying connection and unity of it all. However, sometimes desperate times happen, and then we must drop the profound thoughts and do what needs…

Make them like learning for the sake of learning rather than chase after a mark. We as humans love learning but schools and other institutions often encourage chasing certain metrics rather than curiosity and wonder when it comes to learning a subject I can give constructive feedback on a student based on their performance and I encourage them to…

Tutors are expected to bolster student grades however this is not their true purpose, A tutor should help to develop students to not only achieve greater marks but also to have a greater understanding of the field they are being tutored in. This should extend beyond the tutoring time as the student develops the skills required to support…

I believe that tutors must have a good attitude and genuinely enjoy the concepts and the subject. Without this, the student will most likely find the tutoring bland and boring, which would reduce their engagement and their overall performance and knowledge in the subject. My experience as a tennis coach has shown me how different students learn at…

The goal of tutoring should be to empower students and thus the primary focus of tuition should be to develop confidence and independence rather than reliance. For this reason, I believe the most important component of tutoring is not working through content, but reflecting and future planning to ensure the student believes they have the skills…

It's clear that I am not sort of an expert in the subjects that my students are struggling with, but I would undoubtedly do my best to get them better, including flexibly doing…

A student will need a tutor because he/she couldn't understand what was being taught in class. The best thing for a tutor to do is focus on the parts that the student failed to understand and strengthen their understanding in those areas. Anybody's hold on Science is only as good as their understanding of the basics. So, it is best to focus on the…

I believe it is important to understand the student's weaknesses and strengths before starting to teach them. I have come across a common problem with students, which is that they often jump straight into trying to solve a problem without fully understanding the theory/basics first. Hence, I try to first help them understand the basics then go…

I believe that it is important for tutors to be passionate about teaching. This way, it is easier for the student to gain interest in the subject, which ultimately leads to better performance from the student as they are more motivated to study and learn. I also think that it is important for tutors to create a comfortable learning environment for…

A tutor should motivate students to want to achieve their best and provide them with opportunities and knowledge on how they can achieve this. A tutor should create a supportive learning environment where the student can thrive and feels comfortable to ask questions. A tutor should teach their student/s how to be a self-directed learner, as this…

I believe it is really important that a tutor is able to communicate well, encourage and understand the primary needs of their students. The tutor should then be able to think of many different and useful strategies to help the student learn. It is very important the tutor brings a sense of fun to the lesson, to urge the student to want to learn…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to teach them not just what to think, but how to think. Its about providing them with strategies to find their own answers. I believe a tutor should be able to pass on their mindset of growth and resilience to a student. A student's life would never end after just school, and being resilient and believing that you could grow above any challenges would be a huge key to their own success. I can get the words out of a textbook and make them stick. Knowledge should be committed forever and understood, not simply memorised. Inside Camden ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Mavis explored simple fraction addition and subtraction using physical representations, then linked her interest in marine life to a reading comprehension task about anglerfish.

In Year 10, Una worked on understanding break-even points and capital gains in Maths, alongside reviewing atomic theory and mole calculations for Chemistry.

For Year 11 Biology, Lily focused on exam preparation by practicing mock questions on DNA replication and protein synthesis, while also editing a biotechnology essay using her teacher's slides for support.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student left her maths booklet at home, so she was unable to complete planned activities—organization of materials remains a hurdle.

In senior Biology, one student's report was submitted unfinished, with the conclusion and discussion missing before the deadline ("the report was unfinished").

For a Year 11 Chemistry task, another struggled to include in-text references and faced grammatical issues that made her writing harder to follow.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student repeatedly checked each answer step-by-step for reassurance during algebra practice, slowing independent progress.

These moments left them scrambling or less confident during assessment preparation.

Recent Achievements

One Camden Park tutor noticed a Year 8 student who previously hesitated to read aloud now volunteering to tackle comprehension passages and even tackling unfamiliar words, showing real persistence when pronouncing trickier terms.

In a recent high school session, a senior student who used to miss key science definitions was able to recall and accurately explain challenging vocabulary like "vestigial" and "homologous structures," using the correct scientific language without prompting.

Another high schooler came prepared with her own list of last-minute questions for test revision, driving the session herself and finishing with clear answers on topics she'd struggled with before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Marion Mobile Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Plympton International College.
