The most important things a tutor can do for a student having the ability to take pressure off the students. Having only graduated from school last year, going to tutoring for the subjects I had trouble in, took some of the pressures of Year 12 off of my shoulders as I had the reassurance that I could go to my tutors with concepts I had trouble…

The most important thing I can do is instil confidence and belief into a student. My method of process-driven teaching allows students to gain confidence to tackle any academic goal, which arises from the hard work they put into the plan we develop together. Hard work combined with a clear direction and plan has led to amazing results for many of…

Relating to my strengths as a tutor, I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is giving a thorough and concise explanation of every single concept to a student, in a way that isn't only just memorizing, but also using their own logic and thought process to understand and learn on their own as they go. This must all be applied in an…

A tutor should have the ability to share information in a way that others will learn, grasp the concepts, understand the input. A tutor should be able to know strengths and weakness of a student. A extra paper work is required by tutor for better performance of a student. A regular assessment of student to enhance his performance. A tutor should…

I think one of the most important things about tutoring is to help students not only understand what they need to do, but also why they need to do it, alongside techniques to perform well in assessments. My biggest strength as a tutor is my ability to explain concepts from the ground up. Because my own understanding of maths and science is built…

I believe explaining a concept in such a way that the student understands it intuitively and can thus use that understanding to solve different problems, rather than simply rote-learning a series of facts, is an incredibly important part of being a tutor. The tutor should be adding to a student's toolkit such that they can solve a variety of…

Tutors need to be patient, not every student is equally as smart, or equally as attentive. You have to find a balance. A great example I think would be is planting a seed. After you put the seed in the ground, you can put all the water in the world, but it's not gonna grow into a tree in just one day, just like a student, you will break the…

I can make the student not only competent, but also comfortable and confident in a certain topic. I understand how stressful hard subjects can be. Inside CanningtonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Zivah practised breaking down large numbers into their place values and worked through multiplication of 2s and 3s using targeted exercises.

For Year 8, Aiden focused on simplifying linear equations and substituting variables for number values, building fluency with algebraic expressions.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ellie reviewed consumer arithmetic topics such as percentage increase and decrease in the context of income tax, alongside exploring atomic structure and periodic table groupings in introductory chemistry.

Recent Challenges

A Year 7 student repeatedly avoided completing homework, even after reminders ("Did not do homework again"), which led to limited practice on key algebra and fractions concepts.

In Year 9, a lack of note-taking during class meant important problem-solving steps were missed when attempting worded questions—this made it difficult to break down what the question required, especially under time pressure.

A Year 10 student was heavily reliant on calculators for basic operations; when asked to work without one in class, calculation errors increased and confidence dropped.

"She waited for my approval before answering," observed a tutor with a Year 5 student grappling with times tables—uncertainty often halted progress mid-question.

Recent Achievements

One Cannington tutor noticed a big shift in Shrika's approach to algebra—she used the "talking aloud" strategy consistently, asked for extra clarification until she was sure of each step, and then solved new questions without help, something she hesitated to do before.

Remy, a high school student, worked through worded problems with much more independence this week; after some initial guidance, broke down each question herself and finished her worksheet accurately.

In Year 4, Zivah tackled all textbook practice problems on her own for the first time and only needed minimal support from her tutor.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Dorcas was brilliant. Proactive, organised with a genuine interest in Yasmin's learning. Dorcas went over and above what was required of her and for that I am very grateful. Your company has always been professional and understanding also, no complaints there whatsoever. Thank you for following up with us and perhaps another time in the future we may need your services, I wouldn't go anywhere else to find a tutor.

Thanks for your e-mail follow up! All is going well thank you with Serenity-Mae's tutorials. It has been a positive experience for her which is great!

Ryan has been great. Jordon is already understanding more of the content which is fantastic. His words were "Ryan explains things much better than my teacher, so I understand it better."

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Cannington Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Cannington Community College.
