The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to be prepared for each session, including having a strong grasp of the content, being able to answer and explain each of the questions the student has. Having the ability to transfer the knowledge the tutor has to the student in a way that is easy to understand and is also correct is…

Be a friend, be understanding, listen, find multiple ways to explain concepts and most importantly, help them learn from previous mistakes. I’m easy to talk and quite an outgoing person. I am able to talk to most people and communicate concepts easy. I pick up on a issues from students easily and find myself able to quickly think of…

a tutor first needs to understand the capability of the student considering all the strengths and weakness and work on it. Only just transforming knowledge will not help the child grow but instead develop a liking for that particular subject will make that child understand it more easily. Temporary teaching does't work in this teaching field.…

Inside CavanTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Labiba revised the definitions and calculations for area and perimeter, then practiced applying these to various shapes using her school assignment.

In Year 10, Nathan tackled quadratic equations by solving them with the null factor law and explored further through a quadratics investigation task.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Anjali worked on differentiation from first principles and applied calculus techniques to questions involving tangent lines to curves.

Recent Challenges

During Year 11 Maths, Labiba's tendency to rush through calculations led to errors in number substitution despite knowing the correct method.

In a recent trigonometry session, skipping careful line-by-line working meant mistakes were repeated with surface area and unit conversions—time was lost re-checking calculator entries.

Meanwhile, Eliza (Year 8) often forgot prior concepts like prime numbers, requiring frequent review before new material could be tackled; as noted, this left "insufficient time to cover new topics for this term."

Isobel struggled to stay focused on decimal comparison tasks and needed reminders to follow instructions closely, which slowed progress during booklet work.

Recent Achievements

One Cavan tutor noticed Labiba now recalls geometric formulas directly and applies them to solve problems, whereas last session she needed more reminders; after learning how to handle composite shapes, she quickly broke down a tricky problem by herself.

In a high school session, a student who used to make frequent calculation errors in trigonometry now chooses the right formula independently and finishes homework ahead of time.

Another recent win came from Eliza (Year 6), who started asking questions openly rather than working quietly when stuck, and then solved all the decimal-fraction matches correctly during their number game.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I met Angeline for the first time on Monday this week- She is bright and seems to have lots of resources and experience already.

We are very happy with the lovely Sarah and more importantly, Annie is enjoying her time with her.

We are very happy with Simon. Ryan has taken to the tutoring really well. One on one has really helped as he cannot get distracted by other kids and Simon keeps him on his toes and listening attentively.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mawson Lakes Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Pooraka Primary School.
