Biology Tutor Beaumont Hills, NSW
As a tutor, my main focus is on getting to know each student personally – their strengths, weaknesses and what they want to achieve. I feel as though a comfortable space where they feel comfortable exploring ideas, asking questions, and even making mistakes is something important as through mistakes you can learn. Offering guidance,…

Finding ways to help them in understanding key concepts e.g. using simpler language to explain in my best possible way. Proofing reading my student's work is also important especially math questions as one mistake could lead to a subsequent one, i would teach student ways to proof read their work during exams. Being kind, nice and patient are the…

To me, the most important thing for a student to gain from tutoring is self belief and confidence in their work. As when they feel more confident they will take tasks head on which will help improve their technical skills in the subject as well. I am very patience person who confidently believes that anyone can accomplish whatever they put their…

The most important thing that a tutor should do is teaching student how to study efficiently, instead of just give them questions to do and mentioning about the content. Try best to explain the content and help them to learn more. Try my best to arrange my time and planning my class, be patient to student to explain all contents and have a wide…

Bring enthusiasm to the lesson, ask them for feedback so that I can alter the way I teach to better benefit the student. I'm always looking for feedback from the student. Everyone learns and responds a little differently, and it's important to me to look for the best way to tutor a student. I can always bring enthusiasm to the lesson because I…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to teach the student how to approach problems and questions on their own, such that they are not dependent on anyone when they encounter a difficult problem in the future. For example, to teach them how to look at a problem in many different ways, to reverse the problem and work…

Being patient with the student as they work through the question, and helping them with whatever they don't understand about the situation. I have been through these times, and i want to help…

Try to help them gain a good, comprehensive understanding of concepts that they don't quite understand as at school, the teacher does not have time to individually help out every student. I consider providing a supportive and encouraging learning environment to be an essential role of a tutor, as it allows students to be more open about their weaknesses, which we can then work together to address. I think one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is help them understand concepts that may seem impossible to them because they can then view learning in a completely different viewpoint. This helps them have an open mind towards learning instead of viewing it as something tedious. As such, being understanding and empathetic…

The most important things I can provided to the student are an approachable, enriching learning environment. An enriching learning environment is like a petri-dish full of nutrients. A tutor should provide a student a "light-bulb" moment, where they suddenly understand a concept, gain an idea or know how to answer a question. Light-bulb moments allow students to gain confidence in the subject, and thus achieve the goal of a higher mark. I believe it is also important for tutors to provide tips for dealing with stress,…

Help them thoroughly and make sure they understand each concept that is explained. Not all people are the same and that applies to students as well, some kids are very talented while others are slow on the uptake. As a tutor it is my duty to make sure that all of them understand any concept being taught and to ask any student who didn't understand…

Local Reviews

The information on the website was incredibly helpful to find a tutor / read profiles. Communication once contacted was very prompt and professional as well as supportive in terms of our special requirements. Although the tutor we had chosen wasn't available they provided us with another tutor option who was perfect. The ongoing follow up and support resources have been a great asset to our new tutoring journey.
Nikki, Cherrybrook

Inside CherrybrookTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Aanya worked on addition and subtraction of fractions as well as finding fractions of quantities, using number lines to support understanding.

In Year 8, Sam tackled linear equations and practiced solving two- and three-step equations, along with revising ratios and rates in preparation for an upcoming assessment.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student James focused on HSC Chemistry past papers, specifically refining skills in Module 6 calculations and analyzing Module 7 reaction pathways.

Recent Challenges

A Year 7 student often avoided writing out working for algebra and fractions, saying, "I can do this in my head"—but missed marks on questions that required clear steps.

For a Year 9 learner preparing for a test, unfinished practice papers meant tricky word problems remained unmastered; as one tutor noted, "he needed to finish more practice tests to feel ready."

In senior Chemistry (Year 12), long response answers were incomplete because not all components of the marking criteria were addressed, resulting in lost exam points despite sound content knowledge. The pressure of time left some key details omitted.

Recent Achievements

A Cherrybrook tutoring session saw a Year 9 student, who'd previously needed reminders to apply strategies for fraction-to-decimal conversion, independently use the right method after just a brief review.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student who often hesitated with multi-step chemistry calculations managed several complex Mod 6 problems without prompting—an improvement from earlier sessions where step-by-step guidance was needed throughout.

For a younger primary student, one tutor noted that subtraction and addition are now completed solo rather than requiring hints at each step; last week he finished all his set questions without asking for help.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Sophie is very happy with Jane as a tutor.  Jane is extremely diligent - we have the complication of the UK syllabi and Jane has taken a lot of trouble in her own time, to check up on what Sophie should be learning !

Hello and thank you for your email. We are happy with Philip's progress in these few weeks as you suggest I am sure more time is needed for him to be more confident . We are also happy with his tutor he is very well spoken, polite and gets on well with my son so far.

Thanks Gene, so far, Jamie's response has been very good.  He has had 2 lessons to date, as last week was cancelled at our request (he was away on camp). Jamie has responded very well to Eshan, who's approach is unassuming, gentle, but persuasive and constructive.  Jamie actually looks forward to spending time with Eshan to teach him his Maths strategies. We look forward to seeing Eshan again next week. Thanks also for the newsletter.  I have to say that I think your supportive written material is very useful!

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Pennant Hills Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like John Purchase Public School.
