A tutor should have good listening skills so that they will better understand students' misconceptions and struggles. It is important to treat each student and how you go about emphasising the content to the students uniquely. A good tutor should aim to be relatable and open to share own experiences with learning and highlight that it isn't an…

The most important thing that a tutor can do for students is to listen, which helps us understand their needs and enables us to help them effectively. I also think preparation on a tutor's part is a very important part of the relationship with a student. I would consider myself to be a great listener, which comes in handy in tutoring and I my…

As a tutor, I believe the most important things a teacher could do for their students is making them feel encouraged and secured. Promoting education in today's society is something that should be dominated and put first. In my eyes, a child's education is the first step towards a child's success. Encouraging students and providing them with a…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are build understanding, confidence, and consistency. The most important things a tutor can do for a student is build confidence and spark an interest for learning. I would do this by encouraging a growth mindset and applying school concepts to the real world to show students that school learning does relate to the real world and doesn't just remain in the books. This is something I personally found…

To begin with, a tutor must encourage a student to do better and learn from previous mistakes. Getting upset/impatient with a student is only going to discourage the student and prevent him/her from reaching potential; and that's the opposite of the desired goal. In addition, confidence has to be built in a student; this way a student will be able…

I believe effort is the most important thing, regular check ins, solving problems for the student and being able to not only be a tutor but also a friend. I think the most important thing that a tutor can do is to provide individualised instruction, as well as a safe and non-judgemental learning environment to student, something that they may not be able to obtain in a normal big-size class with limited time to teach an increasingly information-heavy curriculum. I have been tutoring students…

Be patient with them and encourage them to do their best. Consistency is key and results don't just appear overnight, trust the process and at the end all anyone can ask of you is to do your best. Another big thing is to always be honest with them, whether that means admitting that you don't know something (but can find out for them) or letting…

Make sure the student has the right attitude towards studying and enjoying as well. I personally think enjoying what you are doing is the most important. From my experience, It is way easier to learn and memorize the things you like. Forcing the student to do something worsens the attitude and possibly the grade as well. I think my biggest…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student involve making the student understand the concepts at a deep level, rather than tutoring them solely for the purpose of achieving higher grades. I believe a good tutor should remove the fear of a subject, if any, from a student's mind and encourage them to learn in more detail, while providing…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide specific help to the student that caters to their needs, tutors I encountered in the past would provide the same work to each student regardless of skill level or questions. A tutor plays a pivotal role in a student's development, in both academic growth and personal resilience. Inside Constitution HillTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Nathan worked on algebraic equations, including creating his own from worded problems, and also practised applying Pythagoras' theorem with a focus on clearly structuring working for assessment.

Year 9 student Olivia reviewed properties of angles and parallel lines to solve unknowns in triangles, alongside an introduction to linear relationships and basic graphing using diagrams.

For Year 4, Zoe explored perimeter concepts through real-world examples and reinforced basic counting strategies.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 Maths, one student left homework incomplete last week, which stalled progress on new concepts—"homework from previous week had not been done which halted progress."

A Year 11 student showed a pattern of losing focus during exam-style questions, missing key details in worded problems and needing reminders to read each part carefully.

Meanwhile, in Year 4 Maths, another student completed a multiplication homework challenge but didn't show any working out in her book; this made it hard to identify where errors might have occurred or offer targeted feedback.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Constitution Hill noticed a Year 10 student who had previously hesitated to ask questions now openly sought clarification on tricky angle properties, showing real initiative during problem-solving.

Another high school student worked through past test mistakes and, after focused review, avoided repeating those errors in their next assessment.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 student who used to rush homework took time this week to complete every task with care—her folder was neatly organised and she proudly shared her finished work at the start of the lesson.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Wentworthville Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Toongabbie East Public School.
