I believe giving a student your undivided attention helps them stay focused. My key strength that helped me connect with kids in India despite not speaking a hint of their local language is patience and non-judgement. I find that when students understand that it's completely okay to make mistakes they will happily want to learn because they are…

Beyond just teaching a student maths or English, I think a tutor can instill a sense of self-belief and confidence in their student. That is the biggest gift that a tutor can give a student and is something that will stay with the student for years to come. In turn, it will ensure that the student performs well even after they are not being…

The most important thing a tutor can do is unlock previously unknown doors to the student. Most students have a pessimistic approach to math and physics a good tutor can teach according to the students needs and allow the student to overcome their previous prejudice towards difficult topics, eventually making math and physics a fun topic rather…

Primarily, a tutor needs to be someone the student can depend on for sound knowledge of the content. Being a reliable, rational source of information who is able guide their students to effectively learn the content in an engaging but effective way will more often than not end up benefiting the student and help them achieve their goals. Generally…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is to try their very best in every aspect for their student. For example, if a student is struggling, they can change up parts of the lesson to teach them in a way the students find easier to understand. I believe when the tutor is trying their best, the energy is reciprocated by the student as they…

The most important thing is the tutor should be able to communicate with the student as a friend. Being arrogant in the classes won't help the student to learn it. But, it will work if we get close to him as a friend and give him the chance to work. Also, tutors can induce the understanding of the students by linking the chapters effectively.…

The most important thing would be allowing students the time and space to make mistakes. I believe we can only learn and grow when we make mistakes and learn from them. Mistakes are inevitable and when they’re made, I believe tutors should give reassurance and allow them time to improve so that they can progess further and prevent the same…

Changing the concept of learning from being a chore to being a way to grow is the most important thing a tutor can do. Changing the mentality and the sigma behind learning, creates a foundation where students can reach new heights through their own drive. It is highly important to provide the student with a support network in which the student feels confident to ask any questions and feels comfortable. Local Reviews

I liked the follow up calls making sure we were getting what we needed. It was all arranged as advised for our first lesson in a timely manner. The tutor was always contacting us to select an appropriate time for us and for herself. The tutor was good at explaining and directing my daughter how to solve and approach the math problems. If I didn't get redundant and have unexpected expenses, I would be proceeding with the classes. But will be looking to use the services in a month's time once my finances are in order.

Inside CraigieburnTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Shania focused on trigonometry concepts in sections 4A and 4B, working through problems step-by-step to strengthen understanding.

In Year 9, Harleen completed work on linear equations (1A), moving from foundational basics to solving more complex equation questions with increasing independence.

For a Year 10 student, Jay tackled statistics by completing exercises in section 9A and starting 9B, applying calculation methods for data analysis and interpreting results using practice sets.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8, one student often left homework incomplete and "needed more consistency in homework," especially when revising box plots and composite shapes—this led to weaker recall during lessons.

For a Year 10 student, reliance on mental calculation without written steps meant negative signs were frequently missed; as noted, "she needs to focus more while solving questions involving signs and rearranging the numbers."

Meanwhile, a Year 12 learner hesitated to write out all working for matrix multiplication problems, slowing progress with complex operations. Without regular revision or full step-by-step solutions, gaps widened when tackling unfamiliar or multi-step tasks.

Recent Achievements

One Craigieburn tutor recently noticed a Year 10 student who used to hesitate with trigonometric ratios now independently tackled complex word problems and confidently prepared for an upcoming test.

Another high schooler, after struggling with algebraic equations using the null law, began solving them without prompting—showing clear initiative compared to earlier sessions.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who previously rushed through perimeter questions took extra care this week to check her working, catching mistakes herself before moving on. In their last session, she solved every word problem about circumference correctly without needing hints.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I'm really pleased with Kamran's work with Tyler, he has shown a noticeable improvement in his attitude to maths and his effort and understanding. Tyler is really enjoying working with Kamran , his style of treating him as an equal in his learning journey has been of real benefit.

Patrick is great,  he is working so well with Drew.  He has already given Drew the confidence he needs to be able to learn. Thank you for sending Patrick.

We are very impressed with Geoff. He was very kind and engaging with Michael today. Thank you.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Craigieburn Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Our Lady's School.
