I think the most important things are that a tutor should should consider are knowing the student's leaning style because not every student are the same to just get a question or example at one go, it is important to make the student ask questions or ask them questions so they think outside the box and get a better understanding. I think my…

In the first instance the tutor needs to help them understand the work at hand and equip them with the knowledge and skills that are expected in that subject. The tutor should present the subject in an interesting way to engage the student and ensure the student experiences success to maintain their motivation. Over time, the student will then…

I think establishing a relationship is important. If you know the student then you will understand how they learn best and they will also trust you in return and feel that it is okay to make mistakes. I enjoy making lessons as creative and engaging as I can to keep student interest. I always talk to my students and greatly value their input into…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to provide clear explanations, offer patient guidance, foster a supportive learning environment, adapt teaching strategies to suit the student's needs, and instill confidence in their abilities. As a tutor, I believe my strengths lie in my ability to explain complex concepts in simple…

Inside CraigmoreTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Max practised place value up to five digits and worked through long addition and subtraction problems.

In Year 8, Chase tackled trigonometry by finding missing angles and sides in triangles using the cosine rule, and also revised algebra with solving two-variable equations.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Sam focused on drafting a newspaper article by applying conventions of print media, then edited his work for clarity and structure after receiving feedback.

Recent Challenges

In Year 4 English, when asked to read aloud, one student sped through passages and skipped lines if a word was difficult; "he must read each word carefully and slowly," the tutor noted.

In Year 9 Research Project, leaving article selection until lesson time meant "the opportunity to absorb learning is limited," resulting in incomplete work and over-reliance on tutoring sessions for assignment progress.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student left test revision until the last minute, with little time left to polish or deepen understanding—this created visible stress and reduced confidence heading into assessments.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Craigmore recently saw Chelsea start to ask for clarification the moment she felt stuck on equations, rather than quietly skipping questions—she's now tackling more complex problems using both substitution and elimination.

In another session, Caitlin (Year 9) demonstrated new independence by revising her daily maths work before lessons; this showed up in her speed and accuracy when applying formulas to right-angled triangles.

Meanwhile, Chase in Year 4 has begun filling out what he knows first on worksheets and then circling back for tougher questions, instead of waiting passively for help.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

What a lovely, patient and kind person Alfred is. He got straight into the maths and hit it off with Kent immediately.

I have been meaning to email but time got away. Hazel is loving Rabiba! She's just perfect for her. In fact when we discussed extending the time to two hours in a week or so Hazel agreed instantly. I was in shock. We are all very happy with her so far. She's very reliable and polite.

Carol has been great with Sarah and as you said it takes a few months to start seeing an impact., but Sarah understands her and relates well to Carol.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Playford Civic Centre Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Hope Christian College.
