The most important thing a tutor can do for a student, in my opinion, is to believe in them. When a child's role model believes in them they begin to believe in themselves and, I believe, that is the first step to accomplishing great things. If a child believes that they have the ability to do something they are more inclined to put more effort…

I think that possibly the most important thing a tutor can do is instill confidence in a student. By motivating and building a positive relationship with the student a tutor can really motivate a student to succeed. It is extremely important to be patient and understanding with the student, and provide support and encouragement. Finally, I think…

Listen to what they are struggling with and do your personal best to help the student to build confidence in themselves and in that area. Furthemore, having a good in-depth subject knowledge will be more than helpful too. My ability to simplify problems and communicate alternate solutions to the student so they are able to gain an understanding…

I believe that a tutor needs to communicate with the student about their needs. I think that if the student and the tutor communicate well and both parties understand each other, then it will help the student tremendously. They will be willing to ask questions and participate during the lesson. I am an approachable person. I feel like my passion…

The most important and primary action that a tutor needs to do is to know his/her student as it elicits the tutor a good background about the student strenghts and weaknesses. This factor leads the tutor to construct an study method that is personalised and programmed based on the given student, this manifest in a more efficient and high quality…

Allow a student to learn and gain knowledge in a fun way, or at least learn willingly and most importantly joyfully. I think I have the capability to teach students younger than me with patience and willingness. I think that understanding what younger teenagers or children thinks and want is an important aspect when it comes for them to gain…

The most important thing a tutor is to create a learning environment that the students can learn and fully understand how to do the hard questions. The tutor is able to solidify the student's knowledge and set them up for success. I constantly ask the student to let me know how they are going. If there's any questions or concerns they have, my…

Provide motivation and help develop a passion (or at least an appreciation) for Mathematics. Success would be more likely if the student is enjoying the subject matter. Furthering this; to teach the student confidence in their abilities and eventually be more independent in thier learning/study. It is also important that a tutor understand the…

Tutor should listen to the students. When I actively listen, I get a better understanding of where the students are struggling, what they're cuirous about, and how they learn best. I think my strengths as a tutor are my ability to be patient , adaptable, and supportive. I'm good at tailoring my approach to fit each student's unique needs. Taking…

As a tutor, I think the most important thing is really understanding the student—how they learn, what they find tricky, and what excites them about the subject. I focus on breaking down complex ideas into simple, relatable steps, and I encourage questions so they feel safe exploring and making mistakes. I aim to build confidence by celebrating…

Local Reviews

Dealing with EzyMath tutoring was very professional & easy to get started. Our tutor is great. A benefit of being part of the Ezy maths network was the access to resources available to us to help us in-between sessions. My only complaint is that it is expensive, but it helped our son get back on track quickly.

Inside CroydonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Ava focused on simplifying, adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions through targeted worksheets.

For Year 8, Ethan tackled rearranging algebraic formulas and applied index laws using variables to solve more complex expressions.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Sophie worked on solving linear equations and plotting linear graphs by hand, emphasizing the interpretation of gradients and y-intercepts.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student repeatedly mixed up which index law to apply and in what order during algebra tasks—she was sometimes unsure of what order to apply each index law in—leading to extra time spent retracing steps.

In Year 8, a learner struggled to break down multi-step linear equations without guidance, hesitating over which operation came next, especially with fractions nested within other fractions.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student faced delays when dividing large numbers due to slow recall of times tables; moments dragged as she tried different combinations on scrap paper. This lack of fluency often left her pressed for time by the end of sessions.

Recent Achievements

One Croydon tutor noticed Paddy finally starting to recall and use the correct rules for negative and positive multiplication—something he'd been mixing up in previous sessions.

In another recent session, Lara managed to explain her process out loud for rearranging algebraic equations as she solved them, a big step from when she hesitated to show her thinking.

For a younger student, Lily, who used to freeze with long division, confidently tackled problems with decimals this week and explained how each step worked before moving on to the next question independently.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Croydon Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Croydon Primary School.
