I think one of the most important things is for the tutor to be understanding and listen to the student's problems to be able to grasp what they are struggling with and aid them effectively. It is also useful for the tutor to build a good relationship with the student to help increase their strengths in learning and incorporate their interests I…

I think the best tutor is one who guides the students properly and fairly not only in their academics but also about life challenges. Most importantly a tutor should be ready to explain a single concept even 10 times to students if they are not able to get that without getting annoyed Well , I'm quite patient which I think is my biggest strength…

I think the most important role of the tutor is to analyse and reflect on a student's learning and problem-solving approach methods, in order to provide meaningful adjustments for greater comfort and confidence going forward. In other words, the identification of barriers to learning is the most crucial point of a tutor's action, as it is the…

Try to make them feel confident in themselves and build intuition. I firmly believe that a tutor should not only share knowledge but also inspire a love for learning. Building a strong mentor-student relationship is crucial, nurturing an environment where questions are encouraged, and challenges are viewed as opportunities for growth. Also, tailoring teaching methods to suit individual learning styles, and…

A tutor should be strict about discipline but at the same time friendly and lenient understanding students problem. He should be available on phone all the time for his students during the exam period. Also, the tutor has to get some real-life problems and repeat the same basic concepts repeatedly so that the student memorises it for a long time.…

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is be encouraging towards a student; often students get tutoring in a subject they are struggling in and are already mentally finding it difficult so it is critical a tutor positively encourages them and reminds them of their improvement. It is also very important a tutor listens to the…

Impart sound knowledge and learning skills to allow students to continue with these skills without a tutor Strengths I feel I am able to really get to know each of my students as an individual. The most important thing a tutor can do for their students is to foster a supportive and encouraging learning environment. The most important things a tutor can do for a student is creating lesson plans and methods based around that student. The tutor should also never make a student feel dumb or less capable, but instead should show the students that they have the same capabilities as their peers, it may just take other methods, and concepts that they are not getting…

A tutor should motivate students to want to achieve their best and provide them with opportunities and knowledge on how they can achieve this. A tutor should create a supportive learning environment where the student can thrive and feels comfortable to ask questions. Inside Cumberland ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Ella revised advanced algebra questions and explored real-life applications of ratios in preparation for a test.

For Year 10, Andrea worked through exponential equations and factorials, solidifying her understanding with targeted practice on these challenging concepts.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student focused on polynomials—identifying key features for an assignment—and began tackling trigonometry questions to reinforce graphing skills.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student showed reluctance to attempt graph sketching without guidance; "she did not do enough graph sketching," leading to gaps when tackling domain and range problems independently.

In Year 8 algebra, one student avoided writing out working, especially when unsure about substituting values—this led to confusion about what the question required and inconsistent analyses.

For a Year 6 learner, over-reliance on calculators meant basic multiplication facts weren't recalled automatically during quick-fire exercises.

A Year 4 student struggled with following written lines in number work, making errors harder to spot or correct mid-task.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Cumberland Park noticed that one Year 11 student, who used to avoid difficult questions, now independently attempts challenging problems after just a little prompting and even handed in her assignment draft with no concerns.

In Year 9, another student showed a shift from needing constant guidance to confidently suggesting her own approaches—she now requires fewer prompts to answer algebra questions and explains her reasoning clearly.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who previously struggled with multiplication is recalling tables more easily and now works through worksheets, recognising and correcting mistakes on her own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mitcham Memorial Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Westbourne Park Primary School.
