Never treating them as if they can not do something, they just need to understand the concepts behind the problem. I am good at reading my students. I consider the most essential things as a tutor is to be patient and be considerate in order to have effective tutoring because not all students have the same learning pace, strength, and weaknesses when learning. Also, these qualities are important because it can build positive environment where the students are more confident and comfortable to…

The most important thing a tutor can do is understand the needs of the student and teach them accordingly. Every student has their strengths and weaknesses. That is why a good rapport is needed to cater to the student's needs and help them succeed in their academic efforts. I believe gradually building confidence in the student through proper…

Assist with their understanding. It's much more helpful for a student if they know why they are using a certain method or technique, rather than just memorising the sort of question a technique should be used for. Understanding of what they're doing makes it easier for them to remember how to answer questions, and it makes it easier to apply their…

All the students in a class do not have the same level of understanding, so the teacher needs to be very patient to make sure that all her students are carried along. That no student is made to feel less than others despite his/her performance. A teacher should constantly encourage her student to be better. A teacher should continually liven the…

I personally opine that, as all fingers are not of same length same way every student is unique. A tutor is not the one who only teaches the subject. The role of the teacher is to teach that fighting spirit to learn and deal with the subject and make the subject easy to understand with their experience and guidance. So,they will have a strong…

Over the years, I have developed the opinion that the teaching of transferable skills - contrary to only what is needed at the moment - is most valuable for the student’s future development. It is important to see that just completing the mandatory homework will not suffice, the real challenge is to change the mindset. As a good tutor, one has…

Tutors have to let students make mistakes. Afterwards, tutor has to tell them why such mistake is derived logically. That is way we learn. I have been solving maths for my whole life. And I believe that every difficult math problems can be divided into elementary parts. Also I solve problems by separating into easy parts; therefore, the way I try…

Optimism. Students need positivity and confidence above all else. As a tutor we need to make sure that we show them that every cloud has a silver lining and every problem they face they will only get stronger from those mistakes they make. Students get demotivated very quickly and it hits their ego when they can't seem to tackle a problem and this…

A tutor should be a good friend and care for the child. He should understand a student's weak spot and help him/her in overcoming those issues. Further, a tutor must maintain professionalism and respect student's work. A tutor must motivate a student to take interest in the subject by explaining practical applications. 1.Communication…

The most important thing that a tutor can do for a student from my experience is to have an emotional connection. I feel it is not just about delivering a lecture. A tutor must understand and respect a student’s thought process. For instance, during my second year of tutoring, I had this exceptionally smart student. But his grades rarely…

Based on my experience, I think it is very important to not only teach/lecture the knowledge/skills to prepare the students for a particular test or subject. It is also important to train the student to have the ability to seek answers on his own. In short, I believe in "teaching someone how to fish is always better than giving him a fish" in…

Inside DaceyvilleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Despina worked on understanding the area and volume of 2D and 3D shapes, along with practicing perimeter calculations.

Year 8 student Michael focused on simplifying algebraic expressions and applying the Pythagoras theorem to geometry problems, using visual examples for clarity.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Sophia tackled chemistry syllabus content by reviewing electron configurations (spdf notation) and exploring trends in periodicity, including atomic radius and first ionisation energy.

Recent Challenges

Frequent reliance on calculators for basic operations, such as times tables and simple addition, made it harder for the Year 9 student to build fluency in index laws ("less use of calculator and a more thorough understanding and memorisation of times tables…").

In Year 11 Chemistry, incomplete memorization of polyatomic ions led to slower progress during ionic equation tasks.

For a Year 5 lesson, one student jumped quickly to answers without fully writing out working or reflecting on key phrases from questions, which meant missed details when reading texts.

During a senior selective-style test, another student struggled with time management and needed extra practice under timed conditions—she finished late and felt frustrated.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Daceyville recently noticed a Year 10 student who, after struggling with algebra, began working through examples independently and now occasionally solves problems without prompting.

In another session, a Year 9 student showed new initiative by finishing a research task on her own, whereas before she needed frequent reminders to stay on track.

Meanwhile, one of the younger students has started reading out loud more confidently during comprehension activities and now actively eliminates incorrect answers instead of guessing.

Last week, a high schooler completed her science report on time for the first time this term.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I have found your entire service from the first contact professional and friendly and will recommend both your organisation and Andrew to anyone who requires a maths tutor. . As I said earlier, I found Andrew both  diligant and effective in the few sessions we were able to fit in. Jesse's main comment was that 'He makes everything so easy to understand' which is really what tutoring is about.

Thank you for your email. Andrew has settled nicely with Phal and is engaged and enjoying the experience. Phal has spent the last few weeks getting a hold on where Andrew is up to with his maths and I am sure it will continue to be rewarding for him.

Darius is fantastic. He is extremely dedicated and well mannered. He often stays more than 1 hour to make sure Harry understands everything they have covered. Harry has become enthusiastic toward maths and he can already see improvements. Thank you so much for referring Darius, he has been a life saver!

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lionel Bowen Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Michael's Catholic Primary School.
