Teach obviously! but i think if the tutor can make the lessons as fun as possible so that the student looks forward to them as something enjoyable rather than as purely work, the best results will occur. I am an excellent communicator and can teach via example quite effectively in almost any subject. I am easily able to match my communication…

To me, the most essential role a tutor can fulfill is that of an enabler and empowerer. I believe a tutor's primary goal should be to provide students with a strong foundation of knowledge and a resilient problem-solving framework, not only to tackle academic challenges but also to navigate any obstacle life may present. An empowering tutor equips…

Motivation and confidence are two key elements of student success, if I can support them in achieving a sense of self-efficacy regarding these elements, they are bound to see improvement. Students often know where they fall short in their work, they just need motivation to improve those areas. Once they know that they can achieve this themselves,…

I would love to be able to make a safe, enjoyable environment for students to ask questions without being scared or embarrassed, which I believe is crucial in aiding a student's academic development. Tutoring can be challenging, especially when it comes to motivating your learner. You see the potential they have, and they often hear about the potential they have, but they do not feel as though they got what it takes. Inside DrummoyneTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Jess focused on revising for NAPLAN and tackling end-of-year exam questions, building confidence with key assessment formats.

For Year 8, Jess worked through algebra topics including factorisation—particularly rules involving negatives—and also practised finding areas of circles using formulas distinguishing radius from diameter.

Meanwhile, Year 9 lessons included mastering linear relationships by graphing lines with two intercepts and rearranging equations, as well as extending understanding of trigonometry to include sine, cosine, tangent and their inverse functions through textbook examples.

Recent Challenges

Several process challenges were noted across year levels.

In Year 8 maths, Jess left 7 sheets of homework, which meant she missed out on valuable feedback and practice with ratios.

A Year 9 student repeatedly relied on mental calculation for simpler algebra steps but didn't show working—"even if it is a more simple operation that can be performed in her head"—making it hard to trace sign errors when answers were off.

For a Year 10 topic test, one student forgot to check subtraction signs during simplification, leading to repeated mistakes and extra correction time instead of learning new concepts.

Recent Achievements

A Drummoyne tutor noticed one high school student, Jess, has begun to self-correct minor errors in her algebra and now regularly checks her multi-step working—where she previously skipped over mistakes.

Another older student who struggled with statistics earlier in the term showed clear progress, as seen by recent test results that reflected a solid grasp of key concepts.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student experienced a breakthrough with times tables after weeks of practice and even explained the "EF procedure" back to the tutor for the first time.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Zoe is great, Dylan really likes her and feels comfortable around her which is great. as you said, we wont be seeing actual result right away but I think its going to work :)

Thank you, the feedback I got from Michael is that the tutor Gavin is great and quite understanding.

Just letting you know how happy Jack is with Yuta. He's so lovely, friendly and polite and  has been  great helping Jack with his maths. Jack understands the way Yuta explains things and is much more confident with his maths now. So far this year Jack has been struggling with maths and his marks have been in the 40% range. Since the tutoring with Yuta started, Jack has sat for his Year 11 Yearly Exam in which he got 70%  which is a great improvement, so he was really happy about that and feels that with continued tutoring he can improve a little more. Jack would like to continue tutoring with Yuta  after the school holidays when school resumes, so we will keep in touch and book in again once Jack receives his new Year 12 Timetable. Thankyou.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Balmain Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Mark's Catholic Primary School.
