Having been a student myself, the greatest feeling when coming away from my tutor was a feeling of relief and greater understanding. I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is simply make them feel more confident in approaching and applying concepts to questions. I believe my strengths as a tutor would be my ability to…

To not give extra bad pressure to students. A tutor should help make a learning environment and time, where learning a frustrating topic becomes enjoyable, rather than further creating a frustrating learning environment which can lead to more stress in school. The aim as a tutor is to help the student gain courage in their ability to learn the…

A tutor plays a crucial role in a student's learning journey, and there are several important things a tutor can do to effectively support their students: Every student is unique. In the teaching phase, student-focused teaching would be my method of teaching, which is to discover what the students need instead of dumping knowledge, whilst showing respect and understanding. When a student raises concerns about a question, which I assume in maths and sciences usually composites of concepts from multiple areas of study, I…

To make the subject interesting to their students and instill a love for learning and imparting knowledge in them, so that they don't consider learning a chore and they genuinely look forward to learning. The most important things a tutor can do are: 1. Provide a safe and supportive environment where the student feels comfortable sharing their concerns. This helps to identify the student’s preferred learning style and areas to focus on. 2. Give the student the tools they need to learn on their own. Instead of just giving solutions, a tutor…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is relate to their learning. A great tutor will adapt their learning styles and pedagogy to frame the student and enable them to learn in the best way possible. For example, you may have several students across the week, yet all of them are different. A great tutor makes an effort in…

Acoording to me the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is make a positive impact on his life by not forcing the society standards for learning and growing as every child has a different mind and way of approach to things around them. A tutor is one of the best person who can analyse this and make learning a creative activity instead…

A tutor must be patient and listen to how the student feels and explains their material. Without this we can't understand where the gaps are in the students knowledge OR whether they really do understand, but just in a different way. I think the main role of a tutor is encouraging confidence in their students. I have found that most of the time my students know the answer, they're just too afraid to say it. I think a common misconception about a tutor's job is that their whole purpose is to get their tutee an A+. While this is obviously a wonderful side-effect of tutoring, the most important thing a tutor can do is to develop and improve a student's ability to problem-solve, learn, and work effectively to complete their academic goals. The difference…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen to their needs for their subject and pinpoint the exact cause for their frustration/ troubles. Local Reviews

Patricia has been instrumental in helping my son go from a D average to an A student. She promoted a learning environment for him that made him feel comfortable and confident and that has had a snowball effect with his results. Seeing him improve his grades in maths also gave him the motivation to put in more effort into his other subjects. I would highly recommend Patricia. Outside of tutoring time, she would always go out of her way to send him revision and relevant resources. We will miss her smiling happy face!

Inside Eagle FarmTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Josh focused on solving simultaneous equations and revising quadratic equations, with extra practice using the quadratic formula.

Year 10 Rebecca worked through long division of polynomials and explored real-world applications of derivatives in function analysis.

For Year 11, Lincoln tackled trigonometry with a deep dive into the unit circle and exact value calculations, while also reviewing compound and double angle formulas for sine and cosine.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 Maths Methods student recently moved from General and struggled to catch up, missing foundational concepts and feeling "stuck when questions were framed differently."

In Year 10, a student avoided tackling worded problems, focusing instead on familiar algebra drills—this limited real exam readiness.

For a primary student, hesitation and lack of confidence in mental arithmetic led to second-guessing answers; as one tutor observed, "confidence seems to be a big factor."

Meanwhile, another senior missed homework set on algebraic rules, resulting in gaps that showed up during revision quizzes. Missed practice or incomplete tasks meant these gaps persisted into assessments.

Recent Achievements

In Year 10, Clara had previously hesitated to ask questions when stuck, but now she readily speaks up for clarification and attempts new problems independently—she even tackled factorising quadratic equations on her own after guided practice.

Phoenix, a senior student, struggled with using Excel for his maths assignment at first; by the end of their sessions, he was confidently creating scatter plots, analysing regression lines, and interpreting statistical trends without prompts.

Meanwhile, Olivia in primary school became noticeably more engaged during online tutorials and started using the interactive whiteboard to complete algebra worksheets with minimal support.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Hamilton Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Hamilton State School.
