I touched on some of these points in my previous answers, but as a tutor I believe the ultimate goal should be to provide one's students with an academic toolbox in the form of an understanding of the fundamental principles of any given topic. By covering first principles, and providing students with problem-solving abilities, he or she can then…

The most important thing for a tutor to do to a student is to be able to connect with them on a level that allows them to understand the content. Not being able to form a connection with the student makes the learning process tough. It is important to find an approach that enables the student to succeed. In my opinion, one of the most important things a tutor can do is to make it clear to a student that they are capable and believe in their abilities as a student. This establishes trust and goes a long way in terms of fixing problems of difficulties in any subject area. It will also build a student's confidence in themself all while knowing there…

I think the most important aspect of being a tutor is to assist students in coming up with their own interpretations, especially in english, by expanding their skill set. By giving students the tools to succeed but letting them work through the problems first, it allows them to put forward any errors or miscommunications, which can then be…

The most important thing to being a tutor is the passion towards teaching and the motivation to get the best results from his/her students. Inside EnoggeraTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Jake worked through calculating the area of various shapes and applying Pythagoras' theorem to solve right-angled triangle problems.

Year 8 student Emily focused on expanding and simplifying algebraic brackets, using guided examples for practice.

Meanwhile, Year 5 student Lucas revised times tables for fluency and learned how to identify angles formed by parallel lines, using visual diagrams to support understanding.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9, as one tutor observed, she second-guessed herself with positive and negative numbers but would eventually come to the right answer, which slowed progress in algebra and created moments of hesitation.

For a Year 11 maths assignment, difficulty explaining why certain methods were used led to less detailed responses; this limited the clarity of her mathematical communication.

In Year 5, slow working speed meant more time was spent on basic calculations than tackling new material.

A lack of motivation in Year 8 science resulted in resistance toward challenging questions—"there was an evident lack of interest for the topic"—and made complex tasks feel discouraging.

Recent Achievements

One Enoggera tutor noticed a high school student who used to get stuck on algebra, but now completes most questions quickly and accurately—last session, she even expanded and simplified brackets without any help.

Another recent win came from a Year 10 lesson: after struggling with Pythagoras' Theorem for weeks, the student solved related problems independently.

Meanwhile, in a primary session, one boy who used to avoid times tables volunteered to tackle them first and got every answer right during revision.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mitchelton Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Hillbrook Anglican School.
