I think the tutor should understand what a student's basics are and what he initially knows about the topic. He can try to ask him if he/she doesn't understand the things which were taught. The tutor should be able to motivate the student and make sure learning is not a burden and it's all about enjoying the subjects which he has too. As a tutor,…

In my opinion successful tutors build strong, personal relationships with their students. Also tutors listen and communicate early and often with parents and teachers. I am the type pf person who is willing to put as much as effort as possible to get the student satisfactory grades. I am also kind and doesn't get furstrated when…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to wear students' shoes, which means to understand their strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles. Once we recognise how each student learns best, we can adapt our explanations and materials to support them more effectively. I used to struggle with some of these subjects myself, which helps me…

I believe it depends highly on the students understanding and their level of education. However in saying this, the ability to create interest and enjoyment in a subject is the most important. As from my own experience enjoying a subject and being interested in the topic helps greatly in motivating a person to understand and achieve well in it. I…

A tutor must make themselves approachable and be a role model figure to their students. As someone they have a more personalized time space with compared to their school teachers, the students are often likely to look up to their tutors as figures of inspiration and personal ceilings. It is our duty as these figures to not just live up to their…

To instil confidence in students and inspire them to study the subject. The tutor should make complicated concepts as simple as possible. Besides, the tutor should be very friendly. I believe that a tutor should be friendly with the student so that the student can freely discuss the problems with his/her tutor. The tutor can use interesting techniques to describe the concepts which will increase the concentration of the student and also his/her eagerness to learn. Again asking the student questions about the topic can help…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is guide a student. Just watering is not enough but should help the students to grow his roots so that the student grasps the concepts not just answer some previously seen examples. It was incredibly easy to get started with EzyMath Tutoring. A couple of clicks, a phone call and we were in business! My son's tutor is great - he is showing my son lots of alternative strategies and is highlighting areas for practice before their next session. I know measurable results will take time but we are happy with the progress thus far. And, more importantly, my son is feeling more confident and engaged in math class.

Inside Essendon NorthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Aiden worked through converting fractions to decimals and solving percentage problems, focusing on clear step-by-step calculations.

In Year 11, Ethan tackled linear motion and gravitational motion in Physics, including rearranging formulae to solve for unknowns.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Lara concentrated on Special Relativity concepts in Physics and practiced applying electromagnetic induction principles to real-world scenarios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 Physics and Maths, one student repeatedly relied on formula sheets for even basic questions and struggled to connect formulas with real-world meanings. "He still just sees a formula as the thing you use to plug values in," a tutor noted after an interest rate problem, leading to confusion when unfamiliar wording appeared.

In Year 10, missing or jumbled working steps caused errors—skipping writing out calculations led to lost numbers during matrix problems.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner's tendency to sprawl working across the page resulted in confusion mid-way through multi-step perimeter tasks; details were missed or units mixed up.

Recent Achievements

One Essendon North tutoring session saw a high school student, Alex, who previously struggled to identify which formulas to use in finance and matrix problems, now tackling complex questions independently and rarely making calculation errors.

Another win came when Matthew, also in high school, showed real initiative by completing extra work on amortisation tables—something he'd found confusing before—and could explain the difference between nominal and effective interest rates without prompting.

Meanwhile, Ella in Year 6 moved from hesitating over worded inequality problems to confidently solving them after working through a hands-on example with pencils and pens.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Moonee Valley Libraries—or at your child's school (with permission), like Essendon North Primary School.
