It is imperative for a tutor to know the students' weakness in order to be able to plan, practice, and implement the necessary actions/studies needed for the quickest and most effective improvements. As a tutor, I would label my friendliness and approachability as big strengths of mine for this will allow my students to get along with me easily,…

Help them to feel more confident and comfortable with the subject. It is most important for the student to reach a level of independent confidence with relying on the tutor or other forms of help. It's very important that a tutor can passionately engage with a student and journey with them as they progress. I also think that a tutor's role as a mentor in general is important I am very passionate about it and that allows me to enthusiastically and actively engage with students and try hard to help them understand and appreciate more…

I believe that the most important thing to do is to communicate with my student and get an idea of what they know and don't know. It is important to build upon existing knowledge to explain other concepts and to avoid confusing my student. I think my strength is being patient with my student. I also believe I can encourage improvement and work on…

I believe the most important thing as a tutor is to be positive and encourage students at all times. When I received tutoring in high school the most effective way in which I learnt was to be encouraged to try the question even if I had no idea how to do it. Being open minded and starting somewhere is such an effective way to move forward and…

Being a teacher, it's his/her duty to make the student understand any concept accurately with an ease and with great patience. It is not right to shout or get angry on any person if he or she is not able to do any thing, all you need is some time and practice and also some tricks to solve any problem. I am a very patient person and work with full…

A tutor can do a lot for a student. But I feel like the most important thing that can be done is to change the idea of a negative notion about a subject in the students mind. Attitude plays a key role in learning, and diminishing that fear, and giving the student confidence can really change their entire interest and perception about that certain…

I believe the most important role of a tutor is to create an environment where the student feels fully comfortable and confident. It’s crucial that they never hesitate to ask questions or admit when something isn’t clear. When students feel safe and supported, genuine learning can take place. After that, I think it’s about helping them…

I believe tutoring helps students develop a genuine love for learning. There are 2 characteristics a tutor needs to achieve this. Firstly, the tutor should have an open and friendly personality. Learning is inherently effortful, and having someone friendly to guide the process makes it more enjoyable and productive. Additionally, tutors need to…

The most important thing that a tutor can provide for a student is support and motivation. When a student is struggling, they have low self-efficacy and motivation to engage with the subject. Inside FairfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Ava focused on converting fractions to percentages and explored main causes and solutions for climate change, including renewable energy sources.

In Year 9, Ethan worked through exam-style questions involving the addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of negative integers as well as identifying coefficients and simplifying algebraic expressions.

For Year 10, Sophie practiced solving worded simultaneous equations and found midpoints between coordinates using worked examples to strengthen her understanding.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student often arrived without her school book or resources, making it impossible to check how classroom methods matched tutoring approaches. "She didn't bring her school book home, so I couldn't check how her teacher is teaching," noted one tutor.

In senior Chemistry, a Year 12 struggled to recall prior processes and did not share important test results until late in the session, limiting time for feedback and review.

In Year 3 maths, frequent loss of focus led to messy written work—her attention drifted and number patterns became harder to grasp. Tasks lingered unfinished or were rushed, causing ongoing confusion.

Recent Achievements

A Fairfield tutor recently saw a Year 11 student who, after struggling with exam nerves, began openly discussing her stress and worked with the tutor to develop strategies for staying calm in test conditions.

In another session, a Year 9 student made noticeable progress by arriving well-prepared and asking for clarification on geometry concepts she'd found confusing last month—she's also making an effort to keep her work neater than before.

Meanwhile, a younger student in primary school has started sounding out tricky words instead of guessing, which helped her tackle new spelling challenges confidently during reading time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Fairfield Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Yeronga State High School.
