The important thing that a tutor can give a student is time and attention which he might not get in classroom of students. Make the student feel the subject is not difficult by explaining concepts step wise. The tutor can also build self-confidence and problem-solving skills by making him approach the issue first and then guide the correct…

I consider the most important thing as a tutor is the success of my student academically through personalised lessons. I feel an obligation to ensure that my students pass or exceed in the topics they bring to the lessons and aim to empower them to create independent learners. I would say my strengths are being able to break down complex topics…

Have patience and understanding. Not everybody understands maths as well as the next person, for osme people they could get it easily, but for others it could take a while. Having patience for a student is a great way to help them and also encouragement; is another very important thing that could be done for a student and hopefully a combination…

As I outlined earlier, a teacher's or a tutor's sole responsibility is not to teach academia, it is to serve as a role model and to help their students grow as people. I think it's so important to treat students as adults, no matter their age, (Of course with a little sensibility applied) and even more importantly as an individual -- to not apply…

I believe there are two things that are most important for a tutor. The first is not only knowing what area of help the student is in need of, but understanding why they need help with that, which is then enlightening as a tutor in how they should receive assistance. The second point is to be approachable and kind, so that students feel as though…

I believe that an effective tutor will help the student develop as a learner and problem solver, not only in the subject tutored, and give them lifelong study skills. This is important because the subject and level being tutored is only temporary, whereas people continue gaining and using knowledge for their whole lives. My objective as a tutor is…

I believe that any tutor or teacher has the potential to shape and inspire a student's future. I assert that successful tutors are able to build strong relationships with their students as it personalizes learning. Another thing is to teach to the student's strengths and minimizes the students weaknesses. Every student and their way of learning is different, so, as a tutor, one should be flexible according to the needs of the perplexed…

The most important thing is give a student confidence in their own abilities. Without confidence, a student will continue to doubt themselves and struggle whether you are guiding them in their learning or not. I think the most important thing a tutor can be is patient and supportive. As tutors, we have already completed these subjects, and so we know the 'pressure points' and ways to deal with them. It is our job to pass on this knowledge and help others. If someone is receiving tutoring, most often they are struggling with one or more parts of a topic…

Make them realise that they have the ability to acheive, and helping them unlock that in themselves. I consider the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to ultimately inspire them in a love of learning and hopefully pass onto them capsules of knowledge which are priceless. Inside Fairview ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Alex worked through arranging fractions on a number line and explored the relationship between fractions and decimals.

In Year 10, Emma practised applying the area of a triangle formula to different problems and built confidence with function notation, also touching on physics formulas for an upcoming test.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Noah revised exponential functions and logarithms, focusing on growth and decay models using real-world scenarios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 Maths, a student's messy working made solutions difficult to follow—"he needs to be a little cautious of the way he sets out his working," one tutor noted.

In Year 12 Biology, another student hesitated to ask clarifying questions during lessons on homeostasis, limiting deeper understanding and feedback use.

Meanwhile, in Year 7, poor time management led to incomplete assignments and stress balancing schoolwork with other activities.

A lack of confidence surfaced across several year levels: students second-guessed themselves or doubted correct steps in algebra and geometry problems, leading to hesitation rather than steady progress.

Recent Achievements

One Fairview Park tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 11 student who used to be hesitant about physics—she's now managing her study time much better and recently celebrated a strong test result that gave her an extra boost.

In Year 10, another student who was once reluctant to speak up has started asking more questions during sessions and is now checking her answers on her own, even tackling extra homework without prompting.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who previously struggled with reading aloud managed to finish an entire chapter from "The Faraway Tree" by herself this week.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as City of Tea Tree Gully Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Surrey Downs Primary School.
