Understand his situation. Usually, they don't have a clear understanding of the basics and it is extremely important to know what level do they have and practice what might be the hardest. I believe that one of the most important things is making the student see that the subject is easy. Explain everything in a simple understandable way and…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to teach them to learn for themselves. It is easy to rote memorize a formula or a text, but to be able to teach someone how they can teach themselves and to show them how to problem solve so that they can attack problems independently is far more valuable I believe my strengths as a…

It's essential that a tutor can create a safe space for learning where the student feels that they can make mistakes without judgement, while knowing that their small victories are celebrated with them. My strengths lie in my patience, empathy, and creativity. I understand that every student learns at their own pace, and I take the time to ensure…

Teaching them concepts by using visualisation techniques. Making them understand the why before the how is extremely important. It enables self learning and interest in the subject. The most important thing a tutor can do is empower the student to think for themselves. It’s not just about solving problems, it’s about building their ability to approach any problem with strategy and confidence. That starts with creating a safe space for questions, removing the fear of being wrong, and offering consistent feedback. I also…

The most important thing a tutor can do is take the time to fully understand the needs of each individual student, to help them come up with appropriate goals/learning objectives, and to do everything in their power to help the student meet these goals. This takes time, dedication, and a lot of hard work but ultimately, it will help students feel…

Inside Forest LodgeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Blake worked on recognising fractions using the Fraction Run game and completed reading comprehension activities on Thunder and Lightning, as well as vertical algorithms for maths.

Year 8 focused on algebra with lessons covering adding and subtracting algebraic fractions, factorisation, and contextual problem solving using equations.

For Year 5, Aditi practised imaginative story writing by building a story arc in her short story "Turkey Head" and strengthened grammar skills through tense revision and vocabulary extension games.

Recent Challenges

A Year 4 student was reluctant to attempt persuasive writing, needing encouragement to start, and often hesitated with challenging maths reasoning tasks—"he doubted his ability and was slow to begin," noted a tutor.

In Year 7 maths, one student's distraction with online features like BitPaper tabs led to unfinished algorithms and interruptions in focus.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student tackling algebra sometimes avoided self-editing, leaving errors uncorrected and missing feedback opportunities.

For a senior (Year 11) preparing for exams, over-reliance on calculators slowed manual calculation speed during factorization drills; this made timed practice less effective and increased anxiety under pressure.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Forest Lodge noticed that a Year 9 student who used to procrastinate now attempts answers straight away, even when unsure—showing more initiative and less hesitation than before.

In another session, a Year 11 student who often struggled to focus was able to finish all their assigned homework without reminders and even asked for extra practice questions on topics they'd previously avoided.

For a younger learner in Year 4, using a visible "to-do" list helped him independently organise his tasks and move from one activity to the next with much less prompting than earlier sessions.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

She has been SUPER professional. I would recommend her without hesitation. She is responsible, has made a connection with my son, has communicated with me and kept me informed all the time. She is a great asset. We look forward to working with her in the future.

I am so happy for the tutor you sent us he was a lovely young man and my son related to him very well.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Glebe Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Forest Lodge Public School.
