The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be loving. Actually caring for the student's academic success will not only make them more likely to succeed, but it will help them go beyond to reaching a scholarly level. My two leading strengths are that I know how to teach to make difficult subjects more easy to understand and I am…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is act as a motivation for them to achieve their personal best. Although raising marks is the main objective for tutors, they must be able to interact with the students and find their weak points and there is a limit to what they can teach. They must act as a pillar that can support their…

The most important I as a tutor can do is to accept that each student has a different way of learning and I should adapt and blend their teaching methods according to the student, there's no one size fits all method for everyone. I completed my schooling and bachelor's in engineering (Computer Science) from India and the education system in India…

A tutor can clearly identify the strengths and weaknesses of students and guide them accordingly. He should focus on the strengths and minimise their weaknesses. This is very important as it gives a clear direction to the students. This can also help them realise what career path would be good for them. A tutor should also be able to help students…

What do you consider to be the most important things a tutor can do for a student? Making sure that all of my student's questions are answered before the end of the lesson is one of the most important things in tutoring in my opinion. Asking question is the best way of learning and therefore answering question is the best way of teaching.…

I believe that a tutors role extends beyond just teaching; they are trusted. Receiving tutoring for scholarship subjects for myself in high school, what was my impactful was tutors providing a safe space for open discussion and drawing insights from their learning journeys. As a result, I felt a genuine connection which transformed my tutors from…

A tutor should be able to resonate and communicate well with a student firstly. Another important factor is to keep patience and listen to what the students have to say and not rush them into understanding different concepts. I am particularly good in Maths ,Physics and Chemistry having obtained A* for all three subjects in GCE A -Levels.I…

Imparting information is an important part of being a tutor, but modelling curiosity, a genuine love of learning and knowledgem and above all showing others what it looks like to be passionate about the at or discipline is as important. The most important thing for a tutor to do is understand exactly what that particular student does and does not understand. Besides teaching concepts and helping students solve problems, I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to motivate students. As I believe, unlike school teachers, tutors can give students individualised attention. They have more time with their students to talk about what challenges they are facing about subjects or reflect on where…

I believe a tutor can make all the difference to a student struggling with their studies. School teaching can often be mechanical and impersonal; an environment where some students find it difficult to learn. I know first hand that teaching in smaller groups or one-on-one works is much more effective at learning hard to grasp concepts. The impact…

I think the most important thing a tutor can offer to a younger student is their experience, similar to that of a mentor. Beyond course content, tutors can draw from their study, career and life experiences to help the student navigate their path. A tutors primary task is to help the student with what they want to be helped with, and as a part of that accommodating to their individual needs and goals. Doing anything else would simply be disingenuous. It is worth noting further that accommodating to the student's needs in any way reasonable is quite close to the most important thing a tutor…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is help the student understand a topic. This may sound intuitive however it is often majorly overlooked and replaced with acceptance or shear memorisation for the student. The most important thing a tutor can do is recognise their students ability level and mould their teaching to that level. Inside Forest LodgeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Blake worked on recognising fractions using the Fraction Run game and completed reading comprehension activities on Thunder and Lightning, as well as vertical algorithms for maths.

Year 8 focused on algebra with lessons covering adding and subtracting algebraic fractions, factorisation, and contextual problem solving using equations.

For Year 5, Aditi practised imaginative story writing by building a story arc in her short story "Turkey Head" and strengthened grammar skills through tense revision and vocabulary extension games.

Recent Challenges

A Year 4 student was reluctant to attempt persuasive writing, needing encouragement to start, and often hesitated with challenging maths reasoning tasks—"he doubted his ability and was slow to begin," noted a tutor.

In Year 7 maths, one student's distraction with online features like BitPaper tabs led to unfinished algorithms and interruptions in focus.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student tackling algebra sometimes avoided self-editing, leaving errors uncorrected and missing feedback opportunities.

For a senior (Year 11) preparing for exams, over-reliance on calculators slowed manual calculation speed during factorization drills; this made timed practice less effective and increased anxiety under pressure.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Forest Lodge noticed that a Year 9 student who used to procrastinate now attempts answers straight away, even when unsure—showing more initiative and less hesitation than before.

In another session, a Year 11 student who often struggled to focus was able to finish all their assigned homework without reminders and even asked for extra practice questions on topics they'd previously avoided.

For a younger learner in Year 4, using a visible "to-do" list helped him independently organise his tasks and move from one activity to the next with much less prompting than earlier sessions.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Glebe Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Forest Lodge Public School.
