I think it is most important to be patient with the students and to ensure they properly understand the concepts being taught before moving onto the next topic. You must also be understanding and empathic with the students to show you can appreciate where they are coming from or why they are thinking a certain way whether it is in the way they…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student beyond simply teaching academic content is ‘build confidence’. Many students struggle with confidence, especially when facing challenging subjects or tasks. Motivation and understanding the learning need of a student. Most of these students come because they are either challenged or want to be ahead of the game in class. Motivation is one of the core soft skills a tutor should have. Without it and an understanding of how a student effectively learns, all of the tutor's knowledge is in vain. I’m an…

Studying techniques, creating good habits and of course, feedback for improvements! These are the important aspects that a tutor should show their students. There is much more to learning than parroting back facts - information needs to absorbed, regurgitated, reused in a practical sense. I have much hands-on experience in using my chosen skills -…

I think that one of the important things a tutor can do for a student is to first understand how much the student already knows and where they are struggling. This helps the tutor guide the step-by step to improve their understanding of each topic. Another important thing is patience because learning takes time, and it a calm and encouraging…

I believe the most important thing is to be well-prepared ahead of the session and have good knowledge of the subject. This will also…

A tutor can assist student in understanding the concepts more clearly and a tutor can mold a student's focus on the subject. I think that tutors with patience would be very important, as different students learn and understand things at different speeds. Patient tutors would also allow the students to feel more comfortable around their tutor allowing them to ask more questions, helping them master a particular subject. I think that being a recently graduated student…

Local Reviews

Lina

Inside Gladstone ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Jonas focused on identifying prime and composite numbers and practiced converting percentages to decimals, as well as changing mixed numbers to improper fractions.

For Year 8, Sam tackled solving linear equations and factorising algebraic expressions using examples from their textbook.

Meanwhile, Year 5 student Maya worked on long division and subtracting with borrowing, strengthening her number sense through step-by-step problems.

Recent Challenges

A Year 7 student often left algebraic expression and linear equation homework incomplete, as noted in "homework year 7 algebraic expression" and "homework year 7 linear equation in one variable." This made it harder to consolidate key skills before topic tests.

For a Year 8 art project, a missed print shop visit meant photo printing was delayed ("did not go well, alternative print shop will be…"), which disrupted progress on the final submission.

In Year 5 maths revision, only textbook questions that had already been solved were reviewed—"cover up the workings and attempt again"—limiting exposure to new challenges and reinforcing old errors.

Recent Achievements

One Gladstone Park tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 8 student who, after weeks of hesitating on exponent questions, recently completed the entire exponent exercise without needing hints—a first for her.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student who used to skip corrections now finishes exam review tasks and goes back to fix mistakes independently before moving on.

In art, Louis (Year 10) moved from scattered ideas to developing and refining his photo manipulation projects ahead of schedule, confidently experimenting with new digital techniques inspired by Andy Warhol. Last week, he printed his latest silkscreen-style piece for critique.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Gladstone Park Community Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Gladstone Park Primary School.
