To reassure them that having a tutor and needing a bit of extra help is nothing to be ashamed of. Moreover than learning the tasks, helping them feel they're capable of more than they think they are. I am able to think outside the box when it comes to tutoring and find that using mnemonics, rhymes and even little songs that may help students to…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to put in time. They need to act as if it's not just a job which pays. Prepping lessons early, helping with questions outside of tutoring time, marking tests. All of these examples show a great tutor. - I put a lot of care into my work. - I love seeing others thrive through my help. - I…

As a tutor, it is very important that the teacher becomes an inspiration to the student. The passion with which the tutor teaches the student matters a lot and this also influences the students influence on the subject. When a tutor teaches the student with passion, the student is definitely going to like the subject and learn with full passion as…

I think the most important thing is making the student feel comfortable asking questions. A tutor should focus on understanding where the student is getting stuck and help them build confidence, not just give answers. I'm patient and I don't rush students. If something doesn't click the first time, I'm happy to explain it again in a different way.…

I feel the strengths as a tutor are to help my students to set a high expectation, which motivates them to work towards that. Another strength would be to be honest and transparent with students about how to succeed. And as a tutor, it is our duty to make sure that students know you believe in them and want them to succeed. I'm a team player. I…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them want to study a topic, to present a topic in a certain way that makes the student more enthusiastic to learn. Although understanding a subject is extremely important, I believe the students' willingness to learn is equally important as trying to teach a student to…

I believe that a tutor should be able to build relationships with a student where the students are provided with an environment where they are heard and observed. I think this allows tutors to strategize methods in helping students progress, learn and succeed. This must be done with patience, constant assessment of student's progress, and…

I consider the ability to communicate in the student's eye level to be the essential as a tutor. Firstly, the most important thing that a tutor should do is build up confidence in their kids that they have the potential to achieve their goals and are destined for the best. This instantly boosts up the kids for striving for accuracy and their dreams. Secondly, a tutor should never be a demotivator in any manner. This is important as any…

The most important thing in teaching any subject is showing the big picture along with the nitty-gritty. The most important things a tutor can do for a student go beyond simply reviewing homework. A tutor must make sure the student truly understands the 'why' behind the concepts, especially in subjects like Math, Chemistry, and Biology. Rote memorization is temporary; genuine understanding, which comes from breaking down complex ideas, is permanent.…

The important thing that a tutor can give a student is time and attention which he might not get in classroom of students. In my opinion, the most important thing a tutor can do for students is making sure that the student completely understands the concept and does not try to rote learn it. I believe that a tutor is a person who can change the point of view of a student through which they can grasp the concept well and improves their understanding ability. I own…

Inside GlenungaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Louis practised subtraction and worked on understanding the concept of times tables, focusing especially on the 2s, using hands-on activities to reinforce learning.

Year 10 student Maja tackled financial maths by working through worded problems involving discounts and percentage increases in preparation for an upcoming test.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Sam reviewed calculus concepts such as derivatives and addressed previous challenges with logarithms by applying these skills to more complex questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student repeatedly left working out of algebra solutions, admitting, "I just get lazy when writing and choose the easier route," which made it harder to catch errors with negatives.

In Year 11 English, a student's essay drafts showed persistent run-on sentences—despite being able to identify them aloud, he struggled to fix them independently on his iPad.

A Year 9 student relied heavily on quoting large slabs of text in history assignments rather than summarising ideas in his own words.

In Year 7 maths, times tables gaps led to slow progress solving fraction problems and meant more time spent counting than reasoning through new concepts.

Recent Achievements

One Glenunga tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 9 student who previously struggled to write at length; last week, he completed an entire essay independently, something he'd never managed before.

In senior maths, a high schooler who used to hesitate with statistics scored 85 on his most recent assessment—well above his previous result—and has begun setting personal targets for the next exam.

Meanwhile, a younger student who often guessed quietly when stuck now openly asks for help and explains her thinking during problem-solving tasks. She finished all her addition questions without needing prompts this session.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Fullarton Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Glenunga International High School.
