I believe that a tutors role extends beyond just teaching; they are trusted. Receiving tutoring for scholarship subjects for myself in high school, what was my impactful was tutors providing a safe space for open discussion and drawing insights from their learning journeys. As a result, I felt a genuine connection which transformed my tutors from…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is create an environment that is supportive and built for growth. I also believe it's important that a tutor should make a student feel comfortable with asking questions and making mistakes because, after all, mistakes are how you learn. I believe my strengths are my patience and breaking down…

I believe that personalisation is what sets apart a tutor from an effective teacher. Students should initially be analysed for their approach to questions, personal goals and grievances to adroitly construct a program for them to adapt to. Consistency can further this notion and assist the student in improving their grades. My Strengths as a tutor…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is be understanding and patient. I was a student just a few weeks ago and it was extremely stressful to learn so much knowledge. Having an understanding and patient teacher gives students freedom and reliance as they can always consult them whenever in need. This gives students a peace of mind…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them fully understand the subject and its topics. Once a student properly understands the contents then they can successfully apply the right information to the questions. I can explain a concept or topic in different ways and perspective. I believe that a tutor must be empathetic towards their student. A tutor must understand that each student is going through a separate journey in life and explore how their life experiences may have shaped their perception of their strengths and weaknesses. By understanding these circumstances, I believe a tutor should design an environment where…

A tutor should have the patience to teach a concept to a student and focus on practicising that concept until the student is confident in the area of study. I am kind and very patient and will not be frustrated if a student does not understand the concept the first, 2nd 3rd time. I have experience as a student of private tutoring and I understand…

A tutor's role goes beyond just imparting knowledge. They should build confidence and self-belief, create a personalized and supportive learning environment, and encourage active learning and critical thinking. Providing adequate feedback is the most important trait of a tutor. A tutor must identify key areas of weakness especially for maths. They must also show a method that can be replicated to produce the best results. I am very good at using visual aids to demonstrate new concepts to the students. I am great at boosting the student's confidence as I…

Being a tutor is a very demanding position to be in as it becomes your responsibility to not only deliver the content but to make sure that it gets through to the student. I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do is understand the needs of each student and adapt their teaching style in order to maximise the benefits that the student can get from tutoring. Inside GlenwoodTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Aryan worked through fraction operations—adding, subtracting, and multiplying fractions—and practised connecting percentages to decimals and fractions.

For Year 8, Alisha focused on finding the surface areas and volumes of composite solids using notes and worksheets, along with reviewing formulas for prisms.

In senior secondary, Maya (Year 11) completed HSC exam preparation by tackling varied past paper questions and clarifying major doubts in topics including trigonometry and statistics.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra sessions, a student often left working incomplete when solving equations, which made it hard to spot where misunderstandings with variables arose. As one tutor observed, "she needs to talk aloud so the tutor can know which areas need improvement."

In a senior geometry lesson (Year 11), revision focused mostly on easier past exam questions rather than tackling harder bearings and proof problems—missing a chance to build deeper confidence before assessments.

A Year 7 student avoided writing out steps for fraction addition, leading to repeated denominator errors and confusion about simplifying answers during timed practice.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Glenwood noticed a Year 10 student who previously struggled with scatter plots now drawing them accurately and sharing that he'd received high marks on his topic test.

In a senior session, another student who tended to rely heavily on the tutor's help for algebra was able to tackle multi-step questions solo after a few alternate explanations—solving harder problems without prompting.

Meanwhile, during primary tutoring, one child who rarely asked questions started pausing to clarify things mid-task instead of pushing through confused, showing real initiative. The last session ended with her confidently converting fractions both ways on her own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Stanhope Garden Library/ Dennis Johnson Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Caddies Creek Public School.
