Things that are most important a tutor can do for a student is being reliable and patient with students. Whenever a student doesn't understand something and they ask you it is important to not demean them as that will make them think negatively of themselves and become afraid to ask questions in the future. It is good to have an open mind when it…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to not only teach them, but allow them to be independent and learn. My strengths as a tutor includes that: I am patient, I find different methods to teach, and I try to understand them and teach them in a way how I understood…

Build their confidence so they can solve problems independently, like debugging code on their own. A tutor should encourage questions, give clear explanations without spoon-feeding answers, and track progress to keep motivation up, especially during tough project deadlines in uni. I'm pretty patient and good at breaking down complex code or…

Aside from attempting to push the students academic abilities to new heights, I believe that a tutor can provide valuable insight regarding life as a whole. Such as being able to transfer the skills acquired in solving mathematical equations, to solving problems in real life. My key strengths would be that I believe I can explain concepts which…

One important thing a tutor can do is clearly understand what a student wants with their tutor. For example, if a student already know concepts really well, a tutor should be able to identify this and spend more time on areas where a student may struggle. Furthermore, it is important to consider the student first and foremost. A tutor should be…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to build their confidence and foster a love for learning. Knowing a student and modelling his learning plan accordingly addressing his concerns. Give positive messages. Students require somebody to encourage them in a genuine manner, to make them understand that it’s ok to fail sometimes but worth trying. Coordinated effort amongst parents and tutors is completely vital to a student’s prosperity.…

A tutor can almost shape a student’s future. There can be concepts that a student may be shy to ask their teacher, but I want to be the tutor for them that they can transparently ask their tiniest doubts and absorb the knowledge in the best way possible. I am the eldest child in my family which has made me naturally good with kids. I believe…

A tutor can guide students to achieve their goals, make them confident and sow seeds of morality and wisdom. Teach obviously! but i think if the tutor can make the lessons as fun as possible so that the student looks forward to them as something enjoyable rather than as purely work, the best results will occur. The most important thing I can do is continuously adapt to a student’s evolving learning needs. Students are at a crucial stage of cognitive development, and their understanding can shift from one lesson to the next. A tutor must assess their learning style in every session, adjusting explanations and approaches accordingly. What worked well in…

Inside GreenacreTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Sarah practised time conversions and explored different multiplication and division methods using visual aids.

Year 9 student Sam focused on solving algebraic equations by expanding brackets and also worked through formulas, including changing the subject of a formula.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Michael tackled probability questions with an emphasis on conditional probability and received support with related homework tasks.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9, a student struggled with interpreting division questions and often forgot key steps, leading to confusion during reciprocal tasks. As one tutor noted, "he needed more direction and was very slow in his problem solving."

By Year 11, forgetting important algebraic formulas and prior content made it difficult to approach new problems confidently—sometimes even basic equations slipped away mid-task.

Motivation flagged during lengthy exercise sessions, especially when progress felt slow or mistakes piled up.

In another session, missing out on half the planned content due to time management left unfinished work and mounting frustration as deadlines approached.

Recent Achievements

A Greenacre tutor noted a Year 11 student has become much less reliant on prompts, now working through tricky equations independently and even stopping the lesson to clarify steps when unsure—something he never did before.

In a recent session with a Year 8 student, the tutor observed that she completed her homework ahead of time for the first time this term and could quickly explain how square roots work without needing reminders.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who used to hesitate with new maths topics now confidently answers perimeter questions unaided, finishing all practice problems by himself.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Greenacre Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St John Vianney Catholic Primary School.
