Oliver

Engineering Studies Tutor Maidstone, VIC
I think a good tutor will be supportive of the student no matter what level they are at. If they get something wrong, always support them to discover the correct answer in a way that will help them learn. Rather than tell them how to do something exactly, help them learn how they can discover the solutions themselves, as someone wont always be…

Inside HadfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Oliver worked on drawing linear graphs, understanding gradient, and the y = mx + b form, using clear step-by-step examples.

In Year 10, Oliver focused on solving simultaneous linear equations with the elimination method and reviewed circle geometry including area calculations.

For Year 5, Myki practised multiplication and factors through revision activities and extended this to cover fractions, division, highest common factor, and lowest multiple.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student often preferred to solve algebraic equations mentally and skipped writing out steps, as one tutor noted: "He likes to solve equations in his head. He needs to write how he solved the problems." This habit made it harder to catch sign errors or understand where confusion started, especially with negatives and indices.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student's messy hand counting for subtraction sometimes led to miscounts—extra time was spent correcting basic errors rather than building new skills.

In Year 10 probability, not reading written questions closely left key parts unanswered and confidence dropped after each unclear result.

Recent Achievements

One Hadfield tutor recently noticed a big change with Oliver in Year 9 maths: after struggling to make sense of linear equations, he's now confidently graphing lines using the y = mx + b formula and even tackled substitution methods without hesitation.

In another session, a Year 11 student who previously froze on probability questions was able to tackle class problems independently after working through both experimental and theoretical probability with support.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who used to make frequent mistakes when hand counting has started getting through addition and subtraction columns accurately—last week he finished all ten problems without any errors.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

For establishing tutors, Ezy Math provides a solid support base to springboard them into the market. Not only does it take out the stress of sourcing and securing clients, but the CEP modules ensure the constant engagement of the learning styles of the tutor, and make it clear that all manner of support is available for those who need it. This programme really sets Ezy Math apart from other services, and allows tutors to blossom into confident, experienced mentors. The in-home service really does provide a unique experience for clients, which they truly appreciate. It also helps to make a clear distinction in students' minds between the lessons offered at school, to the very different style of education tutors have to produce. For all prospective tutors, Ezy Math is a great way to grow comfortable within the industry. Through the guidance of Ezy Math it has been a joy to watch students develop a real confidence because of my tutelage.

I just wanted to express my thanks to you and my son's tutor Sam. With his assistance Grady improved his maths results from virtually failing the subject to achieving a very respectable B + for his end of year  11 final grade. Sam was personable and patient, encouraging and motivating. Even though my son has decided not to continue studying maths in year  12 , I am delighted with the results he was able to achieve ,and the confidence and self- belief he attained. Please pass these comments on to Sam. Again, thank you so much.

All good so far, both Will and I are very happy with Ben. He is good value. Highly recommend him.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Glenroy Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Thomas More's School.
