The one-on-one nature of tutoring is significantly conducive to not only the comprehension of the content, but to the students interpersonal skills. Having a mentor will give the student an academic confidence to succeed in what ever path they may decide to take. I am good at explaining the course material to the students level, with examples that…

A tutor must be willing to work with and adapt for each student. It is critical to not treat tutoring as one-size-fits-all - indeed many students may be getting a tutor because standard learning methods aren't working for them. It is also essential that tutors create a safe learning space where students are free to ask questions and give opinions.…

I believe that the two most important things that a tutor can do for a student is to help them gain a passion for their studies, and to teach them to apply their study skills to all of their subjects. I think that these two factors can really help students succeed with school and allow them to reach their full potential elsewhere in life. One of…

As all students would have different levels of understanding, the most important thing a tutor can do is to take the time to devise individual learning plans for the students, plans which suit the individual's learning style and would be most effective in seeing them reach their full intellectual capacity. Punctuality and reliability are also…

Just supporting them through questions and providing hints allowing them to figure out the problem by themselves. Because the time spent is so limited homework is essential in order to consolidate the work done in class. Support comes in many different way such as being a role model and providing your own experiences so students are able to…

Be able to understand that not every student is the same. Everyone's unique and their learning styles are different, so approaching every student with the same method to teach is not a good idea. Making sure to recognize the strengths and weaknesses of each individual student and tutor according to their strengths and weaknesses. Finally, the…

The most important thing that a tutor can do is positively and kindly assist the student in learning new things and help them understand their work. In doing this, a tutor is giving the student tools for future success in life and helping them grow and develop in a positive manner. I believe that my good communication skills and patience will…

I believe one of the most important things for a tutor is to give unlimited support to their students, answering their questions properly and patiently both in and out of class. what's more, a tutor should design their class for students and always get well-prepared. In addition to increasing the student's confidence in his/her academic prowess through his/her understanding of a difficult concept, a tutor may also help incite the innate curiosity of a life-long learner. Likewise, not only does a tutor help achieve and maintain academic excellence, but also build sustainable life-long skills that may aid the…

Remember to always be challenging the student, but only a little bit at a time so they don't feel overwhelmed. Also important is to make sure they celebrate when they make progress so that they don't have to wait until their next test or exam…

Equip them with the ability to eventually solve problems independently. At the end of the day, the role of tutoring is to help students foster independent thinking so they can overcome academic challenges on their own, because being self-sufficient is important. I believe that a tutor must be flexible and patient, as all students' needs are different. They have to be persistent and encouraging, and make sure that any success is emphasised and also improved upon. The tutor should not only help the student to understand their coursework, but also help them to implement their own study plans and methods, so…

I think a tutor must be understanding and helpful. Finding innovative ways to teach and repeat the same concept. If the teacher teaches the student something and I as the tutor say the same thing, there is no understanding that would be gained. It is important to understand exactly what the student is not clear or sure about and clear those doubts…

Enhance students' confidence in their academic ability and empower them to achieve their dreams. I believe a tutor plays a crucial role in molding a student's academic journey, aside from their time spent at school. It is imperative to build a good working relationship with the student, which will aid the student in being comfortable and clarifying all doubts. This is important because I have met many students who are under the assumption…

Academically, I want to be able to build a student's confidence in their mastery of the subject, and familiarize the students with questions that may come up in an exam. I believe having a tutor who presents work in a manageable and stepwise manner is key. many students are embarrassed to admit when they don't understand concepts they may think are simple, or are intimidated by the seeming difficulty of some of the work. Presenting the problems as manageable and breaking them down helps the student gain your trust…

Absolutely I'm happy. My son has quickly been set up with a great tutor with whom he can relate to. My sons confidence with his maths tasks improved within 2 weeks. I Highly recommend using this site.

Inside Hampton EastTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Chloe focused on doubling large numbers and solving multi-step addition problems, then briefly explored fractions using real-life examples.

In Year 9, Liam worked through factorising algebraic expressions and practiced expanding brackets for his upcoming maths test.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Ben tackled arithmetic and geometric sequences as well as exponential and logarithm questions to deepen understanding ahead of advanced assessments.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 science, a student's note-taking was minimal—he rarely wrote down key lesson points, making later revision harder (he should from now on write down key areas of each lesson in a science book).

During Year 10 algebra, skipping written steps hid small calculation errors and cost marks.

In a Year 11 maths test, time management faltered: "she said she ran out of time during the test so she rushed questions," leading to avoidable mistakes.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student completed only familiar multiplication problems for homework, avoiding trickier types and slowing her progress with new concepts.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Hampton East recently noticed some great shifts in students' approach to learning. One Year 10 student who used to leave tough algebra questions blank is now confidently writing out each step and even drawing diagrams to break down worded problems—something he hadn't tried before.

Another high schooler, after initially rushing through homework, has started spreading out her practice over the week and now gets more answers right without extra help.

In a Year 4 session, a student who previously hesitated with times tables volunteered that she'd begun exploring fractions on her own and wanted to tackle harder ones next lesson.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Moorabbin Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College.
