I also believe providing a student with a safe and comfortable tutoring enviroment, where they aren't afraid to ask questions is incredibly important if goals are to be acheived I am very…

Making it feel like a friend teaching him/her, I remember of my high school days when my mates used to come to me to ask for a problem and I would solve it to them in such a way they would never forget, there were laughs included, stories included and of course the main knowledge. I like to research about what topics I’m tutoring and whatever it…

A tutor should be able to provide necessary learning resources for students, feedback and encouragement. A tutor should also be understanding of each student’s skill level and create a stress-free, yet informative learning session that actually tailors to the specific student’s need. Every student should feel that they have the potential to…

I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to provide support, build confidence, and foster a positive learning environment. Support is crucial because it helps students feel that they have someone in their corner, guiding them through challenges. Building confidence is also key—when students start to believe in their own…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to really help them get the best out of themselves. I think a really good teacher or tutor will always leave their students with a sense that they should always be trying to get the most out of themselves, whatever level that is, and not cheat themselves by being lazy. I think my…

Inspiration and encouragement are key. In today's world, it is very easy to get cooped up in the competition to get the highest grades, and a lot of students lose their way in that race and end up not reaping the benefits of knowledge. Many students study for grades and certificates and their knowledge is unable to transition into practical…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is talk to them. A tutor should directly ask the student what they are struggling with in class and what they need assistance with. The student should feel comfortable asking the tutor questions about schoolwork. This is important as a tutor provides a student with much more direct and focused…

Responding and adapting to their learning needs. It is extremely important to be able to tailor to students' needs in tutoring such as adapting the work, demonstrating various ways to explain a skill or method, and even just linking prior knowledge to help the student understand the task better. Ezymath tutoring made an effort to provide my daughter with a tutor who had a maths specialty. Ella was polite, punctual and spent the time to understand and assist my daughter in her weak areas.
Pam, Heidelberg Heights

Inside Heidelberg HeightsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Emily explored factorising and substitution in complex algebraic expressions to build foundational skills.

For Year 10, Marcus worked through scatter plots and used Pearson's coefficient to interpret bivariate data visually and numerically.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Olivia focused on least square regression lines for statistical analysis, as well as reviewing data transformation methods relevant for upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student sometimes forgot essential materials—her maths books and calculator—which meant gaps in tracking what concepts she'd struggled with.

In VCE, one student's written solutions for statistics were "hard to follow," making it tough to pinpoint errors or show full working for exam marks.

Several times across Years 7–10, answers were mathematically correct but missed the actual question requirement; as one tutor noted, "she answered with a valid calculation, but not what was asked."

When students misinterpret questions or leave their resources behind, class time gets spent on clarifying basics rather than pushing ahead.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Heidelberg Heights noticed a big shift with a Year 10 student who, after previously hesitating to speak up, now asks for clarification whenever something doesn't make sense and then applies the feedback to solve practice questions accurately.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student managed to get through an entire chapter ahead of their class for the first time—last term they struggled just to keep pace.

For a younger learner, one primary school student who was reluctant to try tougher maths problems is now willing to attempt more complicated questions independently and often persists until finding a solution.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Rosanna Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Pius X School.
