A tutor should support the student as much as possible throughout their education. If the student is struggling with stress or work loads, I will help the student mentally and academically at all times. I will ensure the student understands every concept by providing practice papers and answering questions outside of tutoring session times as well…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to instill confidence and inspire a student's curiosity for the subject. This comes from clear explanations in class, well-prepared lessons and patience from a tutor so that students can learn and gain confidence in a subject at their own pace. My strengths as a tutor lie in my ability to…

What I consider the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to foster a healthy and suitable learning environment. One that motivates students to learn and to be able to confidently apply the knowledge they are taught both in and outside the classroom. Also since students are more likely to do better when they feel encouraged and…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is not teaching, rather, it is building confidence in them. Additionally, a tutor's job includes creating the urge to learn one step further in a student. An important strength of a tutor is the ability to understand the tutees' weaknesses and direct their thought processes in the right…

For me, I consider giving them the knowledge and confidence to be able to step out of their comfort zone to achieve something previously unachievable the most important thing. Sometimes, a tutor is a guiding mentor, you provide them with stories, knowledge and experience. Then, the student would be able to utilize that knowledge and build a good…

I think invoking a love or passion for learning is the most important thing a tutor can do for a student. I also think it's important to let a student be curious and feel comfortable asking questions and asking more instead of feeling compelled to be satisfied with only what's given I am very patient as a person. I have tutored before and have a…

Attentive listening and keep everything simple: it's deducted from the informal tutor experience that lecturing over hours and hours isn't a good way to help the kids. I tend to ask question like "Did you get it? Was it confusing?" and using simple words to explain the concepts, instead of overwhelming them with a pile of information or technical…

The most important thing would be to create a safe space for students, so they will feel welcomed and understood. This can build their confidence as well. One of the most important things I consider a tutor can do is explain subject(s) and provide support in a way that is tailored to the individual student. In my experience, many students seek tutors for subjects they do not fully understand yet. As every student learns differently, an effective tutor would be able to alter their teaching style…

To begin with, a tutor must encourage a student to do better and learn from previous mistakes. Getting upset/impatient with a student is only going to discourage the student and prevent him/her from reaching potential; and that's the opposite of the desired goal. In addition, confidence has to be built in a student; this way a student will be able…

First of all, which a tutor can do is to be a friend who motivates them, make them learn, make them understand without any pressure and excel them in their early stage of career. I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for their students is to educate them at the student's own speed. The teacher should encourage and bring the best out of the students, not compare to other students. It is not always about students competing with each other, but doing their best and improving daily. I think my strengths are:…

Teaching effectively so that the student can understand the content. A tutor can provide mentoring and perspective for a student. Tutoring in my opinion is more effective than lecturing as the student gets more individual attention. Inside Huntleys PointTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Rose worked on classifying angles and triangles, as well as practicing rounding with larger numbers up to the millions.

Year 8 student Jess focused on trigonometry basics, learning how to use sine, cosine, and tangent in right-angled triangle problems, and practiced rearranging equations for linear relationships using graphing techniques.

Imogen (Year 7) revised adding and subtracting fractions, including improper fractions and mixed numerals, while also tackling lowest common multiples and highest common factors through practical examples.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student tended to avoid showing working for algebra and factorisation, especially with "simpler" steps; as a tutor noted, "she skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors." This led to small mistakes going unnoticed until the end of questions.

In contrast, a Year 4 student hesitated when faced with mixed times tables and sometimes reverted to finger-counting under pressure—this slowed her progress during mental arithmetic drills.

Both students occasionally lost confidence after minor setbacks, resulting in extra time spent double-checking answers rather than moving forward confidently with new material.

Recent Achievements

A Huntleys Point tutor recently noticed a Year 10 student who used to hesitate with complex algebra now methodically checks her multi-step solutions and even corrects minor errors on her own.

In Year 8, another student who once avoided asking questions now regularly seeks clarification during lessons, especially when tackling trickier Pythagoras' theorem problems.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who struggled to recall times tables can now complete all six times table questions—both in and out of order—with perfect accuracy and has started applying new mental strategies for harder multiplication problems.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Gladesville Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Riverside Girls High School.
