The most important things a tutor can do is to tailor their lessons to suit their individual students as every student learns differently and has different learning needs. It is also important that the tutor has knowledge on the curriculum that the student is being taught at school so they can align what they teach what the student is learning at…

From personal experience, I have had a few unfair and unsatisfactory experiences with tutors throughout my schooling journey. As a result, I have learnt from those experiences and structured my services in regards to having the student as the main focus. Something that sets me apart from many other tutors is that I’m very relatable, something which I think is very important to a student. Personally, I’ve known in the past what it’s like to sometimes struggle academically, however, experience has shown me that part of it what it takes to succeed is a great work ethic and an awesome mentor.…

Tutors needs to deliver their fullest in educating the student. They need to have the patience to redirect from the main concept in focus to teach the fundamentals which the student lacks the knowledge. The most important thing that a tutor for students is to allow them to work out answers for themselves. Of course, tutors should provide guidance, but they should not merely provide answers. Additionally, I feel that students must be allowed room to make mistakes. A tutor should not be one to apply too much pressure on a student, as too much force…

I think the best tutor is one who guides the students properly and fairly not only in their academics but also about life challenges. The most important thing that a tutor can do is to pivot their teaching style in order to suit not only the content but how the student learns. The most important thing would be to teach a student that studying shouldn't be a chore, and that giving it their all matters more than receiving a perfect grade. I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is identify and act on the students gaps of knowledge. This is because information is available to the student in the form of teachers and unlimited online resources. A tutor's differentiatory use then becomes identifying a students gap of knowledge and assisting in weak areas that the…

a tutor first needs to understand the capability of the student considering all the strengths and weakness and work on it. Only just transforming knowledge will not help the child grow but instead develop a liking for that particular subject will make that child understand it more easily. Temporary teaching does't work in this teaching field.…

Inside Ingle FarmTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 Emily focused on simplifying ratios and dividing mixed numbers, using practical examples to build understanding.

Year 8 Marley worked through converting decimals to percentages and revisited multiplication basics for fluency.

For Year 7 Lilah, sessions included reading both analogue and 24-hour time as well as practicing addition and multiplication with large numbers to support her school topics.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student often missed the final step when converting improper fractions to mixed numbers, occasionally swapping digits or skipping over key steps—she needs to go through some steps again so that there are no small mistakes such as numbers being swapped around.

In a separate Year 5 session, a student hesitated to start worded problems independently and required repeated encouragement before attempting solutions.

For both, this meant less time spent building independence and confidence, as attention was diverted from consolidating new concepts toward double-checking basic processes and waiting for prompts.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Ingle Farm noticed a big change with Duaa, who used to rush through reading without understanding the story—now she pauses to explain what happened on each page and asks questions about new words.

Meanwhile, Emily (Year 7) had been mixing up steps when dividing fractions but last week worked through mixed number division almost independently, only needing reminders for one step.

Another win came from Marley (Year 11), who at first was hesitant in their initial lesson but quickly built strong rapport with the tutor and engaged fully throughout the session.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ingle Farm Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Ingle Farm Primary School.
