Tutors needs to deliver their fullest in educating the student. They need to have the patience to redirect from the main concept in focus to teach the fundamentals which the student lacks the knowledge. I explain as detailed as possible depending on the extent the student knows-if the student lacks the basics of the subject, I make a considerable…

Tutors are expected to bolster student grades however this is not their true purpose, A tutor should help to develop students to not only achieve greater marks but also to have a greater understanding of the field they are being tutored in. This should extend beyond the tutoring time as the student develops the skills required to support…

I think the best tutor is one who guides the students properly and fairly not only in their academics but also about life challenges. Most importantly a tutor should be ready to explain a single concept even 10 times to students if they are not able to get that without getting annoyed Well , I'm quite patient which I think is my biggest strength…

The most important thing that a tutor can do is to pivot their teaching style in order to suit not only the content but how the student learns. Without this ability to change as necessary you are putting your students at a significant disadvantage. Breaking down complex concepts into simple ideas. Creating a comfortable learning environment where…

A tutor should be strict about discipline but at the same time friendly and lenient understanding students problem. He should be available on phone all the time for his students during the exam period. Also, the tutor has to get some real-life problems and repeat the same basic concepts repeatedly so that the student memorises it for a long time.…

As I alluded to earlier, I think the student's enjoyment is extremely important. That's not to say that they should be having fun at the expense of gaining knowledge, much the contrary; I think the best way for a student to gain knowledge that will last beyond the next test or exam is to have it conveyed in such a way that they take a genuine…

Building a strong mentor-student relationship is crucial, nurturing an environment where questions are encouraged, and challenges are viewed as opportunities for growth. Also, tailoring teaching methods to suit individual learning styles, and…

Tutors not only have to have a solid grasp of the subjects but also a profound understanding of their students. A tutor should take their time with a student and make sure the student understands before moving on. I believe the purpose of tutoring should be to provide learning strategies that are specific to the individual in contrast with teaching in a classroom (at the pace of the class). A tutor should provide multiple strategies for learning. For…

As a tutor, I believe it is critical for providing a space for students to not be afraid to be wrong and foster engagement. A tutor must allow students to think for themselves and provide prompts which enable more critical and deeper thinking. Give the student confidence. Confidence either to persist with the hard work till they hit a breakthrough or the confidence to thing around the problems. A student will need a tutor because he/she couldn't understand what was being taught in class. The best thing for a tutor to do is focus on the parts that the student failed to understand and strengthen their understanding in those areas. Anybody's hold on Science is only as good as their understanding of the basics. So, it is best to focus on the…

In my opinion, it's most important to help students to understand basic concepts and theories when tutoring them. With these knowledge, students will have confidence to overcome problems and hardness in Maths by themselves. One of the most important things I have realised over helping my friends in year 12 would be to walk through the question and not actually doing the question for the student. Sure you could do the question for them and they could get full marks for an assignment or whatever, but they would not understand the fundamentals lying behind the question…

Inside Ingle FarmTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 Emily focused on simplifying ratios and dividing mixed numbers, using practical examples to build understanding.

Year 8 Marley worked through converting decimals to percentages and revisited multiplication basics for fluency.

For Year 7 Lilah, sessions included reading both analogue and 24-hour time as well as practicing addition and multiplication with large numbers to support her school topics.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student often missed the final step when converting improper fractions to mixed numbers, occasionally swapping digits or skipping over key steps—she needs to go through some steps again so that there are no small mistakes such as numbers being swapped around.

In a separate Year 5 session, a student hesitated to start worded problems independently and required repeated encouragement before attempting solutions.

For both, this meant less time spent building independence and confidence, as attention was diverted from consolidating new concepts toward double-checking basic processes and waiting for prompts.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Ingle Farm noticed a big change with Duaa, who used to rush through reading without understanding the story—now she pauses to explain what happened on each page and asks questions about new words.

Meanwhile, Emily (Year 7) had been mixing up steps when dividing fractions but last week worked through mixed number division almost independently, only needing reminders for one step.

Another win came from Marley (Year 11), who at first was hesitant in their initial lesson but quickly built strong rapport with the tutor and engaged fully throughout the session.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ingle Farm Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Ingle Farm Primary School.
