I think the most important thing a tutor can do is to teach the student the skills to become confident at problem-solving questions independently. I think my biggest strength as a tutor is patience. I am more than happy to revisit concepts as many times as needed until the student feels that they understand it. I also really enjoy maths so I am…

I think the most important thing for a tutor is to understand what their student is struggling with and make a plan to deal with the issue at hand. This requires building a connection with students and understanding how they might learn a specific topic. All students are unique and learn differently than other students, which requires the ability…

I believe the most significant thing a tutor can do is instill self belief and show genuine care for the success of the student. This will give the student the confidence to succeed academically, meaning the tutoring process has been successful. I believe I have strong speaking skills and I am also patient. I strongly believe all students learn differently and have their own unique study methods, therefore it is important for a tutor to adjust to the student's needs and personalise the study session. However, I also consider it useful that tutors help develop new study habits and introduce new ways to learn whilst tutoring in a way that the student…

Inside JoynerTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Tasha worked on understanding surface area and reviewed key exam topics using practical examples.

In Year 10, Ava focused on trigonometric functions and tackled related textbook questions to consolidate her skills.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Zoe practiced calculus techniques by working through differentiation and integration problems, applying them to real-world scenarios.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student, when unsure how to proceed with a maths problem, often gave up and immediately asked for help; this meant less time spent building confidence through independent attempts. As one tutor noted, "she can improve her confidence over time to become more independent."

In Year 10, another student's revision was limited by waiting for the school to cover topics before engaging fully—resulting in unfinished word problems ahead of tests.

For a Year 11 assignment, guessing equations without understanding led to wasted effort rather than strategic practice with formulas, making assignments feel harder than necessary.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Joyner recently noticed a big shift with Kiana (Year 11), who at first hesitated on negative indices but, after some guided practice, was independently solving those questions quickly and accurately by the lesson's end.

In Year 10, Clancey started off unsure about trigonometric functions but gradually worked through his uncertainty—by the close of the session, he was confidently answering problems solo without prompting.

Meanwhile, Sophia (Year 3) has become much more accurate counting coins since switching to hands-on activities; she now finishes her worksheets unaided using real coins and rarely asks for help checking her answers.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Strathpine Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Genesis Christian College.
