Support my students and give them the skills to excel in their education while also fulfilling their goals. This can mean different things for different students, so depending on the goals and needs of the students we can together curate a study plan for success. I can relate to students as I too have gone through the same stage so I can help…

I consider a tutor responsibility towards students is to be committed and flexible. The tutor should be with their student even if both have been going through the exam period. The tutor should never cancel on a lesson with a student for their own studies. As well, it is a must to be patient towards the student and be flexible as a tutor to learn…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is to teach a student how to pursue their own studies, that is, if I can teach a student how to study without the need for a tutor, that's worth more than tutoring them the whole year and it will serve them well for the rest of their life. An excellent tutor will keep their students motivated and…

The goal of a tutor is to help the students gain confidence in their subject and help the student with their grades. It is important a tutor is able to help a student gain enjoyment from the subject so that they are inspired and happy to continue to study when the tutor is not around. Thereby boosting a student's confidence in the subject, which enables them to further share this knowledge with fellow classmates when they have a difficulty. The tutor should understand his subject matter to be able to deliver complicated ideas to the students simply and concisely. If the tutor cannot do so, he should further his knowledge of that subject matter. I love to use descriptive and outside the box methods to understand mathematical concepts. A tutor does not just teach a student a particular subject. I believe that the most important function of a tutor is to foster overall academic confidence in a student and to develop better study techniques/learning habits more generally. A good tutor can give a student motivation and techniques to achieve not only in the tutored subject, but in…

A tutor plays a crucial role in shaping the moral values and basic manners of a student's life. Although tutoring primarily focuses on academics, I believe that tutors can significantly influence a student's overall development. Rather than treating the class as a whole, a tutor should give individual attention to each student, understanding their…

First and foremost it would be building a strong rapport with the student and gaining mutual trust and respect. Inside KarrakattaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Michael practised simplifying and comparing fractions, then applied these skills to converting between decimals and percentages.

In Year 10, Sarah focused on quadratic equations by converting from general form to turning point form and identifying roots and axes of symmetry using worked examples.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Alex tackled linear and non-linear relationships by interpreting graphs and equations from real-world contexts.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student repeatedly avoided writing out full working in algebra and index notation questions; as one tutor observed, "mistakes were made due to lack of working out," which led to hidden errors that slowed progress during review.

In Year 11 physics, over-reliance on the equation sheet was noted—Chris needed more familiarity with deriving formulas independently rather than searching for answers, especially under time pressure.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student struggled with reading worded problems closely; skipping key details resulted in incomplete answers on circumference and probability tasks.

During practice exams, several students lost marks due to poor time management and not checking their responses before moving on.

Recent Achievements

One Karrakatta tutoring session saw a Year 11 student, Chris, move from avoiding challenging physics questions to working through them independently and even explaining his thinking out loud—a real turnaround from early lessons where he'd hesitate or stay quiet.

In Year 10, Mitchell has stopped skipping steps in his maths working; instead of trying to solve everything mentally (and making errors), he now writes out each stage clearly and checks his answers.

For a younger student, Antonio's focus has improved noticeably—he stayed engaged for the full lesson and was quick to spot tricky parts in mental maths problems that used to trip him up.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Nedlands Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Hollywood Primary School.
