A tutor should not only help the students to understand the subject material but also teach them strategies to approach problems on…

As a past VCE student that has experienced many different types of tutors personally, the most valuable thing I can offer for a student is the flexibility to cater my teaching to best suit the student's needs. I understand that every student learns differently and that there is no such thing as a "perfect" way to teach. I believe my ability to…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student would probably be helping the student to exceed their academic potential by guiding them through topics and further supplying them with non-routine questions that will push their limits in knowledge and excel in the future. The most important thing that I can do is to allow the student to learn with fun and without any stress. This can be done with a broad explanation on topics and giving examples from our day to day activities. Consequently, a student will able to catch up all the difficult theories easily. I have a good understanding about the math related subjects…

Not only teaching a subject, but making they more confident and independent. For me, the best teachers/tutors that I had were those that showed me the importance of having a "problem solving" mentality, instead of simply learning how to get some questions right. I think that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them completely understand the material. Not only so that they can do a specific question, the important thing is for them to understand the concept, so when they encountered different kind of question, they would know how to approach it. Furthermore, a tutor must adjust…

Making sure the student has high morale is my main priority. Always provide help when needed, never discourage them, and make sure they feel comfortable. Students might be very intelligent, however a low amount of confidence can harm them in exams, as they stress on problems that could be simple without time pressure. I believe I can cut down…

Being patient with the student is very important because it may take time for them to grasp new topics and understand the method to solve a problem. As a tutor you have to walk the student through this process and be supportive and calm instead of getting upset or blunt with the student because this may affect their self confidence and focus. I…

Motivate, encourage and gain confidence. I can help overcome them from fear of subject. I am able to connect with my students, and usually very empathetic to them and get down to level where they start enjoying the subject. Inside KeysboroughTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Jaxxon worked on one-digit addition and subtraction, as well as reading analogue clocks to the nearest five minutes.

Year 9 student Trin practiced trinomial factorisation using both the cross product and grouping methods, alongside solving bearings problems with step-by-step diagrams.

In Year 10, Emma focused on solving quadratic equations through factorisation and completing the square, also tackling worded questions that connect quadratics to real-life scenarios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 maths, a student repeatedly avoided writing out all working steps, choosing to do calculations in their head; as noted, "he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors." This made it harder to trace mistakes and slowed progress on multi-step questions.

A Year 11 student over-relied on her calculator but forgot key settings like the degrees symbol, leading to incorrect trigonometry answers.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student left place value homework incomplete and struggled to remember addition strategies between sessions—making retention of new skills challenging when revisiting similar problems days later.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Keysborough noticed that one high school student, who used to hesitate when unsure, now immediately asks for help as soon as something feels unclear—leading him to complete all his worksheets and homework on time without reminders.

Another high schooler has begun tackling challenging worded maths problems by breaking them down independently, only seeking hints when truly stuck, a big step up from previously waiting passively for guidance.

In Year 4, Charlotte struggled with long multiplication and division at first but, after some targeted support, she managed to solve similar questions on her own during the session.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Dandenong Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Chandler Park Primary School.
