There are also many ineffible qualities that will set apart a good tutor from a great one. Such qualities include, understanding the student, being supportive of them and their emotions and ensuring the student is effectively…

I believe that developing the learning capability of the student is the best thing a tutor can do because a tutor is only going to be there for a short run however their learning ability is going to assist and stick with them forever. I always make the students aware of what kind of questions can be asked while allowing them to take their time and…

Understand them and their learning habits. If a tutor does not understand their student, they can never excel at tutoring that student or almost anyone. Helping a student grow and evolve. A student can be thought of as a growing plant. They need the correct amount of sunlight and water to grow. Similarly students need the right amount of help if…

Like I said, patience and comfortable environment created between the tutor and the student. Rest all can be taken care of by referring to the respective books and study materials. Interactive studies make students remember and understand topics really well. If a tutor can help the student to enjoy the subjects, then it becomes an activity which…

I think the most important thing is making the student feel comfortable asking questions. A tutor should focus on understanding where the student is getting stuck and help them build confidence, not just give answers. I'm patient and I don't rush students. If something doesn't click the first time, I'm happy to explain it again in a different way.…

I think that a tutor should not limit themselves to just subject knowledge. They should research more on effective teaching methods and strategies that might help them connect to their students more. They should develop practices that make a student's life easier and should understand the individual needs of the students. Often tutors have to…

As a tutor, it is very important that the teacher becomes an inspiration to the student. The most important thing is trust that both tutor and student should have on each other. An ease of asking questions and making mistakes is another very important thing. Its okay to make mistakes but if your student is afraid of you , they would never ask questions and will be afraid to make mistakes so the tutor will never be able to…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to identify their strengths and areas of improvement in particular to improve the student's overall performance in a particular subject area. Thus, I believe it is really important to enable the student to feel empowered about their learning through support and encouragement. This…

The primary contributor to a student's poor academic performance isn't the lack of knowledge but the fear of failure. I can guide them in…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to put in time. They need to act as if it's not just a job which pays. Prepping lessons early, helping with questions outside of tutoring time, marking tests. All of these examples show a great tutor. - I put a lot of care into my work. - I love seeing others thrive through my help. - I…

While I think it's important to assist students from an academic standpoint, I also think it's important for tutors to help students develop a sense of purpose in their studies. Teaching students to direct their motivations towards their goals, rather than solely their grades, can be just as important for their future as anything a tutor can…

Listen. Every student excels in some ways and does not in others. This emphasises the importance for a tutor to present ideas in ways which allow the student to learn them in the most efficient and effective ways. This also ensures that the tutor does not repeat anything the student already knows and identifies what the student has yet to learn. -…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is ensure that the student has gained the ability to consolidate the information taught. Inside Kings ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Ella worked through rounding to place values and ordering decimals using school homework, as well as exploring factors and multiples of numbers.

For Year 8, Andrea revised algebraic expressions and spent time on exponential equations, tackling practice problems together.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ella focused on properties of circles—establishing key formulas—and also discussed the structure of persuasive texts for an upcoming English task.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra, a student often relied on worked examples rather than attempting questions independently; as one tutor observed, "she needed prompting before starting trigonometry problems." This led to missed opportunities for consolidating methods and confidence.

Meanwhile, in Year 11 advanced maths, graph sketching was avoided during revision—resulting in confusion when identifying domains and ranges for quadratics.

In Year 5 number work, messy layout and unclear working made it difficult to trace calculation errors in division tasks.

These habits sometimes left students feeling uncertain about which steps to take next or how mistakes had occurred.

Recent Achievements

A Kings Park tutor recently noticed that a Year 10 student who used to wait for step-by-step help now attempts challenging algebra questions independently, only asking for guidance after trying different approaches herself.

In Year 12, one student showed a real shift by bringing in questions she'd struggled with at school and working through them independently during the session—she even submitted her assignment draft without needing reassurance.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who previously hesitated with subtraction has started checking her answers against patterns she's spotted, finishing all her worksheet problems unassisted this week.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Goodwood Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Westbourne Park Primary School.
