Ultimately, a tutor must teach his/her student to be able to rely on themselves and think autonomously when problem solving i.e. not to be afraid of trial and error. I would say my strengths are attributes such as patience with the student (repetition when necessary), determination in getting the message across, and a friendly attitude towards all…

Being able to listen to what the student thinks and needs is the best way to understand the situation and therefore opt for the best path to follow. I tend to be patient and understanding of different people needs so that tutoring is not only delivering information in a one sided way, but more of a cooperative…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is build up his/her confidence on the areas he/she is lagging behind. Working as a tutor for hostel students made me realize my excellent ability to effectively communicate the subject matter in a way that best suits them. A combination of subject matter knowledge, excellent verbal and written…

Truly listening to a student's needs and being flexible enough to alter plans for a lesson. Also, it is important to be patient and acknowledge that not everyone grasps concepts at the same rate, and being willing to repeat concepts again for the student to understand. I am honest about the progression of a student and tell them about what they…

I strongly believe the most basic yet crucial thing a tutor can do for their students is being accessible and flexible to the unique needs of the student. Needless to say, a delivery manner that is dynamic yet effective for the individual student's need is important, however, the difference between a teacher and a tutor lies in their…

In my opinion the most important things a tutor can offer a student is confidence and guidance. This is because as a tutor, building a student's confidence can directly impact their attitude towards learning and how well they can achieve the marks they are aiming for. Similarly, by giving guidance to a student, not only prompts them into learning…

In my opinion, the tutor can make the boring subjects interesting and can also turn an interesting subject to be boring. So, a teacher plays a major role in shaping future of children and that all depends on the skills of a teacher. Building relations with good communication skills and not giving up until I accomplish my task of clearing doubts…

I am extremely happy with Nicky's tutoring. She instantly developed a lovely rapport with my daughter Bonnie. Nicky is very patient and great at explaining maths concepts in a way that is easy for Bonnie to understand. I am already seeing a much more positive attitude to maths in Bonnie and she feels more confident to do maths lessons at school. We got a good one!

Inside KirraweeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Jamie worked on adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers as well as using brackets within longer equations to break down multi-step problems.

For Year 9, Zoe focused on algebraic equations by solving for x and y, and also applied the concept of simple interest to practical questions.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Lucas revised index laws with a focus on simplifying expressions involving indices, along with working through different types of algebraic terms in equations.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 Maths, a student often rushed through multi-step problems in her head and skipped writing down working, which caused errors with working out in her head, according to one tutor.

In Year 11 Biology, another relied heavily on prompts for each sentence when structuring extended answers, slowing progress during exam-style tasks.

A Year 7 student came unprepared without their textbook; this led to time lost sourcing material instead of tackling new content.

Meanwhile, in Year 9 English, following self-made plans was an issue—plans were created but not actually followed during essay writing, so ideas became disorganized mid-task.

Recent Achievements

One Kirrawee tutor noticed Sophie, a Year 10 student, now independently writes out all her algebraic working—something she avoided in the past—and accurately expands brackets without prompting.

Abbey in Year 9, who used to hesitate with percentages and financial maths, confidently calculated multi-step percentage problems on her own last week and even explained her reasoning aloud.

Meanwhile, Eloise (Year 8) showed new initiative by tackling mixed fraction addition questions solo; previously she needed step-by-step guidance but this time completed the set correctly before asking for feedback.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I just wanted to let you know that Arielle's recent yearly Maths marks were the best she has ever had. Usually he marks are in the high 30's ( the test is out of 60) but this time she scored 50 out of 60! Arielle was thrilled and I know this has really boosted her confidence regarding her Maths abilities as she always felt Maths was too hard. I have noticed a definite change in her attitude to Maths tutoring with Ivan. She no longer dreads the session and is able to remain focused and attentive the whole time. This has given her the confidence to begin her new school next year with a positive attitude towards Maths.

Once again I really appreciate your help over the last few months. The structured format that EzyMaths brings to tutoring appears to provide a clear framework and guidelines for the tutors to work within. Combined with a really outstanding young tutor in Calvin this has had been very beneficial for Dom. I congratulate you on a great model and wish the business success for the future.

Shay is really enjoying the tutoring and Ben is a great tutor.  She is already improving in her maths, which was the objective.  Shay even does her extra math homework without argument which is amazing .  We look forward to working with Ben for the rest of this term and next year.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Miranda Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kirrawee Public School.
