Helping them to improve their core strengths in handwriting, communication abilities, and analytical solving. My strength in tutoring is building…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence, foster a genuine understanding of the subject, and inspire a love for learning. It’s essential to create a supportive environment where the student feels safe to ask questions and make mistakes. A tutor should also tailor their teaching to suit the student’s…

Make the concept easy enough for them to understand. Secondly, allowing for all types of questions to be asked. I was a shy student, worried about my answers and questions on how my teachers would judge me. But i think the best way a tutor can teach someone is by allowing the students to ask the most basic questions so they can grow and work hard…

I feel a good tutor would be there for the student at all times whether its regarding the subject or any other hardships they may be facing as a student. I wish to provide all my support for the growth of the student. Moreover, we as tutors should help the students gain more knowledge about the subject in a way they learn to love the subject as…

The tutor can assist the student in the difficulties they are experiencing in grasping the core concept of the subject. Trying to develop interest in the subject by relating the curriculum with everyday examples that are easier for the student to comprehend and understand. And then build their ability to express it correctly in the exam so that…

some of the most important things in a tutor is patience, understanding, and communication. without these three main skills tutoring would not work, and information would be lost in translation or children would feel too pressured to retain and information. To give them confidence and make them feel good about themselves. There is nothing more counter-productive than making a student feel disheartened and bad about themselves, since self-doubt yields anxiety and often poor performance in exams. Establishing a basis of trust is vital for the success of the student, so that they feel in a safe space to…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is making his/her learning journey easier and fun. Make them believe in themselves is the first thing that pops into my mind. To get a student who once thought a subject was boring or complicated into something at least "okay" in which they can see their potential in if they put in the work. That, to me, is the most important thing. The greatest strength my students have commented on is my ability…

Be patient. Tutors cannot expect students to understand or get the question right the first time. It is important for tutors to understand where the student went wrong and to slowly and easily correct them by following the question. Once they grasped an understanding, tutors should give the student similar questions to practice so they are…

Even though it sounds basic, I truly think that patience is the key. When you are respectful of the differences in how people learn it can allow the student to feel more comfortable and willing to engage. I believe that building trust and a strong line of communication between a student and their tutor is important. Tutors should strive to encourage, motivate, and support their students. Inside Lake HeightsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Isla practised simplifying fractions and applying the order of operations, along with converting numbers to percentages using real-life examples.

For Year 11, Tom focused on algebraic manipulation and interpreting survey data in worksheet exercises, while Noah worked through statistics concepts such as mean and standard deviation by tackling targeted homework problems.

Year 12 student Natalia reviewed function properties like domain and range, then explored transformations within functions using a mix of textbook questions and discussion.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student reviewing algebra and linear functions repeatedly relied on solved examples, rarely attempting questions independently—"he needs to practice by himself the same questions," a tutor noted. This led to shallow understanding, especially before exams.

In Year 11, a student working on data analysis and measurement often forgot formulas between sessions because materials were not reviewed immediately after lessons.

Meanwhile, in primary maths, one child's sums were sometimes incomplete due to distraction and fatigue, with missed steps when tired.

For a Year 7 learner, forgetting feedback from previous sessions meant mistakes reappeared in multiplication drills.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Lake Heights noticed a real shift with Evie, a Year 9 student who used to hesitate when translating worded statements into algebra—after some targeted practice, she started working through these problems on her own without prompting.

Meanwhile, Zane (Year 11) showed new initiative by tackling chapter exercises independently at home and then coming to sessions ready with specific questions he wanted help on, a big change from waiting passively for guidance.

For a younger win, Chantel in Year 4 completed her homework error-free for the first time after struggling with long addition last term.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Warrawong District Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Warrawong High School.
