As far as my understanding, as a tutor, he/she always needs to motivate their students to think more widely and creatively. It is true, initially, they will fail several times. Allowing them to do it, will build their confidence for their future, which will be eventually worth it for their life. As a tutor, I am always friendly, patiently try to…

Listen to them. Education is a big system where getting your voice heard feels impossible, a tutor is the best thing the students have if they need to talk about it - even if that's just you agreeing that the resources they were given weren't enough and that it's understandable that they're stuck. I have a good record of teaching people flagged as…

The best thing a tutor can do for a student is it reduce the fear of studying/learning a subject. Mathematics is a tough subject and it is important tutors take the right approach when they teach that subject. I am a huge believer in teachers being friends with their students. My biggest strength is that I get along with students and try and…

The most important thing a tutor can do in my opinion is be patient with a student and try and understand the problem from their perspective. By doing this, you are able to see more clearly the issue that they might be having. I also believe that finding the best learning method for a student is a key part of the role as a tutor, and this will…

The most important things are: - to help the student become an independent learner so that eventually they do not rely to a tutor for academic success - to give them methods or techniques so that their study is more effective and efficient - to help the student learn how to prioritise what they need to get done (in terms of homework, study, or…

A tutor should first be very welcoming and create a warm environment for students. In order to help students achieve their highest potential tutors should adapt and create new engaging ways of teaching the subject to make the student feel confident and have fun while learning it. I believe the job of the tutor is to make the student understand the importance why they study the subject and solve any or all problems the student faces. It is also the duty of the tutor to identity the barriers that prevent the student from scoring high marks and help them overcome those barriers. My strengths: I am passionate about what I…

I believe the most important role of a tutor is to create an environment where the student feels fully comfortable and confident. It’s crucial that they never hesitate to ask questions or admit when something isn’t clear. When students feel safe and supported, genuine learning can take place. After that, I think it’s about helping them…

The most important thing a tutor can do is be a mentor. Students need a guide who can not only help them academically but also go a little extra and use their experience to teach them essential skills like time management. These little details play a major role in the tutee's overall success. My strengths as a tutor include deep understanding of…

I believe tutoring helps students develop a genuine love for learning. There are 2 characteristics a tutor needs to achieve this. Firstly, the tutor should have an open and friendly personality. Learning is inherently effortful, and having someone friendly to guide the process makes it more enjoyable and productive. Additionally, tutors need to…

First and foremost a tutor needs to give them confidence, A tutor should show the students that even the hardest questions can be solved by practicing and hard working. I believe a tutor shouldn't just focus on helping out their students during sessions. In my opinion the most important thing is to teach your students HOW to learn. This means to teach them how to approach a new topic and break it into smaller steps, and how to use a study technique that work best for them. As we have all heard: give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime. :)…

Inside LutwycheTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Jess focused on solving linear simultaneous equations and reviewed surface areas and nets, using worked examples to reinforce understanding.

In Year 10, Anna practiced factorising both monic and non-monic quadratics before moving on to applications of trigonometric ratios (sin, cos, tan) in problem-solving contexts.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Sam tackled perimeters, areas, and volumes of various shapes by breaking down composite figures into simpler components.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 Physics student's struggle with rearranging equations and applying qmc Δt formulas was evident, especially when "swapping denominators and quotients" in heat calculations led to stalled progress.

In Year 10 Maths, homework was repeatedly left incomplete; one session paused because the book couldn't be found, meaning feedback couldn't build across weeks.

Messy working also became an obstacle for a Year 9 student—steps were hard to follow, so small sign errors crept into algebra without being noticed.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 learner hesitated to start questions independently, needing each step prompted before attempting unfamiliar problems herself.

Recent Achievements

One Lutwyche tutor noticed a Year 12 student who previously struggled with quadratic expansion now able to factorise independently and even tackle non-monic quadratics, something that had caused frustration before.

Another high school student showed initiative by identifying her weak points after a practice test—she corrected her errors without prompting and narrowed in on rearranging equations, which she'd found confusing in earlier sessions.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who often hesitated to start homework has begun finishing tasks during tutoring, using vertical multiplication confidently for two- and three-digit numbers—last session, she completed all set problems without reminders.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Grange Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Holy Cross School.
