Tutors are just not there to help students with their students. Their most important role is to be friends and be able to guide their students in the right direction. If tutors become friends, the students listen and trust them more. Of course this does not mean that students can take tutors for a ride. As a tutor I am hardworking, diligent and…

First of all, which a tutor can do is to be a friend who motivates them, make them learn, make them understand without any pressure and excel them in their early stage of career. Secondly, it's all about how comfortable the students are with tutor to ask them doubts without any hesitation. Thirdly, make them learn how to do a smart work instead…

I believe tutors exist to help extend the foundations of what students are taught in schools, whether it be through analysing old concepts with a finer view or reinforcing newer concepts with carefully selected examples and analogies. I believe I am quite capable of exercising patience when a student is trying to understand the subject, trying to…

Everything begins with building a relationship with the child/student and getting to know them as a person, what interests them inside and outside of school. I believe in my students and their ability to succeed academically and overall and I make this message clear. I tell them, on a regular basis, I believe in you! You can do this! I won't…

Help the student visualise or truly understand the concept instead of having to memorise the equations. If a student understands the concept, it could become intuitive for the student to know how to use the equation. One other important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be encouraging and empathetic, build the student's confidence and…

A tutor can help students to develop their skills so they can think out of the box. The tutor helps students to build their foundations. Most important, the tutor helps students to become a good human being. I am always open to new thoughts. I never discourage students from asking relevant questions. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to teach them how to become independent. I would say that tutoring is only a temporary solution to their academic problems. If they are going to enter a university, get a real job or did not have enough money to pay for tutoring services, I would want them to learn on their own. A time would…

Every student is a unique equation, and as a tutor, I thrive on the thrill of cracking the code to each individual's learning style. According to me, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is understand his/her situation and academic difficulties. It's important to relate to the student and their problem in order to be able to solve it. Another very important thing is trust. There has to be mutual trust for a knowledge transfer to happen. Ease their anxiety. Time spent on understanding. (Process is more important than the result) Giving them the tools to fish than rather the fish itself. Showing them stress doesn’t solve problems, making an effort does. There is nothing you can’t do. One day these things will help you. Make them realise their potential. Patience…

Inside MeadowbankTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Sophie worked through numeracy concepts including measurement and space, and also practised statistics and probability based on recent report topics.

In Year 8, Daniel focused on simplifying and rationalising surds as well as using index notation to establish the index laws with positive-integer indices.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Emily reviewed financial maths applications, concentrating on solving real-world problems involving interest calculations and budgeting scenarios.

Recent Challenges

Several high school students showed process-related challenges impacting their learning.

For example, in Year 11 Chemistry, one student struggled under test pressure to identify key information quickly—"she will need to learn to quickly identify what concepts relate to that information"—resulting in missed marks on stoichiometry questions.

A Year 9 student's foundational algebra skills were unclear; without these basics, he found word problems inaccessible and avoided attempting them independently.

In senior mathematics, skipping careful reading of trigonometry and inequalities tasks led to misinterpretation and incomplete solutions.

Calculator over-reliance was noted in Year 10 algebraic equations involving fractions, slowing progress with mental strategies.

Recent Achievements

A Meadowbank tutor recently noticed a Year 11 student who used to hesitate with chemistry calculations now quickly spots her own errors and confidently reworks stoichiometry questions, having realised the importance of using moles over mass.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 learner who previously relied on guessing is now asking for clarification whenever unclear and explaining his reasoning out loud, making it easier to catch mistakes together.

In primary sessions, one student who found number lines tricky was excited to show how she can now use them independently to solve addition problems—she even wanted extra practice on her own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as West Ryde Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Italian Bilingual School.
