To listen to what the student is struggling with and focus on helping them with their problem. Helping them with what they are struggling with will help them in the long run as it will establish a solid foundation for their math and learning skills. Practice is also an important thing a tutor should do for their student, as it ensures that the…

I believe that the purpose of a tutor is to tailor their teaching as closely as possible to the needs of every individual student; tutors should never take a one-size fits all approach to teaching. Whether that be addressing specific areas of weakness, or adopting a particular teaching style, every student has their own unique needs and ways of…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is to equip a student with critical thinking skills relating to HOW to approach a problem. If a student can frame a problem, or recognize which tools are appropriate, then the rest becomes much more manageable. - I have a good knowledge of subjects, and their applications. - I can often recommend…

Firstly, many students struggle, not because they lack ability but because doubt themselves, thus by acknowledging progress no matter how small will help students believe in their own…

I believe tutoring helps students develop a genuine love for learning. There are 2 characteristics a tutor needs to achieve this. Firstly, the tutor should have an open and friendly personality. Learning is inherently effortful, and having someone friendly to guide the process makes it more enjoyable and productive. Additionally, tutors need to…

Thus, I believe motivation is the fuel for accomplishing great results. With tutoring, we can help students to build confidence by tackling their academic fears and as a result,…

Help them learn the way they learn best. Education is extremely important, and often students that seek tuition are having troubles with the work, which is often caused by the teacher not teaching them in the way that they learn best. And that is okay, so as a tutor, I would want to see how they learn best, and help them to enjoy and achieve in…

The most important thing a tutor can teach their student is to be able to sucessfully tackle a subject by themselves. Make them feel confident and comfortable to at least ask questions when they don’t understand something. Inside MeadowbrookTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Zane worked on memory maths for addition, subtraction, and multiplication up to the 8 times table, along with practice on angles.

Year 8 student Xavier revised probability concepts in preparation for an upcoming exam and tackled data collection assessment tasks involving data comparison.

For Year 10, Lachlan focused on Pythagoras' theorem and trigonometry basics, plus practiced proving triangle congruency using a variety of example problems.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student tackling algebra showed strong problem-solving but often skipped writing out steps, which led to hidden sign errors—"he's very good at solving questions but we're working on making sure he shows all the steps."

In Year 11, self-doubt slowed progress in probability tasks; hesitation about which formulas to use meant extra time was spent second-guessing answers rather than building confidence.

Meanwhile, a primary student left homework incomplete and struggled to focus for a full lesson, especially with multiplication tables.

In each case, process gaps like missing written work or lapses in confidence disrupted learning flow and accuracy.

Recent Achievements

One Meadowbrook tutor recently noticed a big change in Lucas, a high school student who used to rush through maths problems without showing his working; now he talks through each step out loud and lays out his solutions clearly, making fewer mistakes along the way.

Another high schooler, Ellie, has started openly asking for help when she's stuck—whereas before she'd quietly struggle alone—and this week managed to complete tricky gradient questions with only minor errors after some targeted review.

In a Year 5 session, Zaden, who often lost focus during lessons, maintained strong concentration throughout and finished all assigned homework before the next meeting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Marsden Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Loganlea State High School.
