I believe that a tutor should be able to help students learn, improve and grow in their areas of uncertainty. Not only should a tutor be consolidating or getting a student to understand a new topic, but also have the ability to help them seek out the joy in learning. I am patient, encouraging and knowledgeable in a range of areas and topics. with…

I think that this does vary student to student (haha sorry bit of an off question-answer!) But largely and for those that are shy it's being approachable and this means anything the student doesn't understand, the student should be eager to ask you if you are approachable. And for those who aren't so shy and often at a higher level too, my answer…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to be very clear and not convoluted when explaining topics, equations, etc. to students, as it can be very easy to get intimated as a student and end up confused. I believe it is also important not to assume any knowledge straight away from students but to intentionally ask what it is that they…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to listen to them and understand well the assistance they request. It is of the upmost importance to consider the students needs. The most important thing for a tutor is that they further the learning and understanding of their student. An important role of the tutor to do this is to assist the student to learn in a way they can understand. I believe that the tutor should make it easier for the student to learn the fundamental concepts. I have a strong understanding of core…

The first important thing a tutor can do for a student is to give them confidence that they can do it. Impart upon a student not knowledge per se, but rather a desire to expand their own knowledge through self-directed learning. Learning and education should be a lifelong process, not one that ends when an individual completes their primary vocational education. Learning makes us grow and develop and look at things in different ways, and the desire…

I think patience is the biggest key factor as without that there can be no way a tutor could help a student. Encourage them! Sometimes the issue isn't in the difficulty of the concept, but that they don't believe in themselves. I believe bringing the right attitude of positive reinforcement can really make a difference as well as demonstrating a ton of examples, so the student can establish a pattern. I believe everyone can be good at Maths. It just…

Above all else, I believe a tutor should prioritise student wellbeing. Beyond academic achievement, it's essential to foster a sense of belonging, confidence and self-worth in each student. This involves attentive listening, emotional support, and creating a safe, judgement-free space. Additionally, empowering students to take ownership of their…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are: 1) provide clarity, 2) build confidence, and 3) foster independent thinking. Encouraging students to ask questions, think…

Inside MenoraTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Annie focused on converting between mixed numbers and improper fractions, then practiced addition and subtraction with mixed numbers.

In Year 9, Liam worked through graphing quadratic polynomials in f(x) form and was introduced to exponential graphs by sketching several types for practice.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Emily revised bivariate data analysis and measurement skills, including calculating the perimeter of different shapes and reviewing indices and surds.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 maths, hesitation to trust initial answers led to over-erasing and second-guessing; "Stop erasing working!" was a tutor's note after a polynomial exercise. This perfectionism slowed progress and hid the reasoning behind mostly correct solutions.

In Year 8 algebra, not reading each question carefully resulted in solving for area when perimeter was required—losing marks despite knowing the process.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student's recount writing often lacked sentence breaks and clear formatting, making ideas hard to follow for both writer and reader. Misplaced confidence or messy structure meant extra time spent clarifying rather than advancing.

Recent Achievements

One Menora tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to hesitate with indices and surds is now asking questions on her own and isn't getting tripped up by tricky conversions between shapes or units.

In a recent high school session, another student who'd struggled with quadratic equations was able to work through several problems independently, only checking in for occasional guidance.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner—previously unsure about reading time—now confidently converts between am/pm and 24-hour clock formats without help, even explaining the process aloud as she works.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Inglewood Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Coolbinia Primary School.
