I understand that teachers don't always have time to help students one-on-one and that tutors can help bridge the gap. I believe that learning is an exponential process, so a small victory in a tutoring session can lead to enormous benefits in the student's future. I am passionate about enabling students to maximise their…

I think encouraging students to develop self-learning skills plays the important role in educational networks as we cannot tutor them forever. We should not only assist students only to understand the materials provided but also teach them the skills of how to learn effectively and what to do when encountering the new lesson/content of knowledge…

Actually speaking, the tutor should focus on potential development rahter than merely improving the skills of a student. It could be best tutors can adopt practices such as NLP ( neuro linguistic programming) to boost rapid learning of a student. But for that only truly commited tutors would raise their hands. Since it reqires a lot of hard yards.…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student, of course apart from being thorough in the subject matter they are teaching, is also to be very empathetic towards the student. A tutor must be able to put themselves in the student's shoes to comprehend the difficulties they are facing. I believe that everyone will love a subject if it is…

The most important things a tutor can do to a student is to not teach, but to make them understand what is being taught, and thereby boost their confidence. Merely parroting out concepts to students would get the job done, but will not help the student understand any better, or feel any more confident. Instead, understanding where the student is…

The main thing is being able to effectively explain a topic or clear students' doubts. If the student is able to explain the topic to others, I believe that is a good indication of their understanding and shows that a tutor has successfully explained a topic or cleared doubts. My main strengths are that I am patient and eager to learn myself. If I…

More importantly, a tutor is a mentor for their students and have the ability to encourage them to excel in their studies. In this way, a tutor has the unique ability to boost a student's confidence and make their lives that much less stressful. Whilst the…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them feel comfortable learning the material the school gives them and to develop good study skills. Students have different learning styles and process information at different paces. A school can't accomodate all the individual learning styles of their students, but tutoring…

A few important things a tutor can do for a student is to be understanding and non judgmental. A tutor should listen to the students' concern/s and work at the same pace as the student, not giving them too little or too much work. Always make sure to let the student know you are there to help them and not to keep quiet when a problem arises. In…

Deepti is working with my daughter for more than a year as her Tutor. The great strength of Deepti is the trust relationship that she develop with the students, so they feel comfortable to open up and get the guidelines she share and teach. My daughter was definitely improved her math, but more important improved her confident and approach to math.

Inside MoorabbinTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Ruby focused on multiplying by 2s and 3s as well as tackling multi-step addition problems, including an introduction to doubling larger numbers.

For Year 9, Liam worked through linear equations and revisited square roots and cube roots, practising with expansion using the F.O.I.L. method.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student James tackled exponential and logarithm questions along with investigating data distributions in general mathematics, often reviewing homework questions together for consolidation.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 Science, a student's note-taking remained inconsistent—key points were often missed, making revision harder later. "He should from now on write down key areas of each lesson in a science book," one tutor observed.

In Year 11 Maths, test stress led to unfinished questions and errors under time pressure; the student struggled to highlight keywords or pace himself during assessments.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 English student avoided revisiting past feedback, so similar issues recurred in writing tasks.

Across several grades, homework was incomplete or attempted only briefly between sessions, limiting deeper practice and retention when new topics appeared.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Moorabbin recently noticed that a Year 10 student, who used to skip steps and feel stuck on algebra, now writes out each stage when expanding or factorising—he even tackled some problems in his head after practising FOIL.

Another high schooler showed a real shift by teaching back the substitution method for solving equations, something he'd previously struggled to remember without prompting.

Among younger students, one Year 4 girl went from guessing at multiplication to getting all her homework questions right with hardly any help and has started looking ahead at adding fractions on her own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Moorabbin Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College.
